BIOS Blank Screen but Windows Loads Fine

Precision 3650 Tower

Precision 3650 Tower

Good morning,

I'm unable to get into the BIOS. Windows 10 loads just fine and I was initially able to enter the BIOS, however after I added an additional HD which Windows 10 does recognize I'm unable to enter the bios (I have removed the HDD with the same no BIOS result). When I type F2 on boot the screen flickers and stays black without entering the BIOS or windows (Monitor connected via HDMI to USB). I've tried to reset the CMOS via a 30-second power button and remove the battery while unplugging the power but neither worked. I am trying to change to boot order of devices including adding a USB drive boot option.

Did you try also F12 ?

Also... what's the resolution of the screen you are using ? ( if a 4k , any chance you could try with a 1080p screen ? )

Screen resolution (from Windows display setting) for BIOS load should not make a difference unless I'm changing it at the monitor level which I am not. F2 and F12 both show a blank screen. I know I'm in the bios, it's just not displaying, because I can hit ESC and the computer reboots and goes into windows. My monitor does not provide for resolution-changing option. I believe they are set to auto by the manufacturer thus there is no setting to change within the monitor settings. What's strange is it worked before I added the new HDD (which I have removed). My Monitors are ASUS (not 4K) connected to the NVIDIA video card via HDMI to digital not USB as I stated above.

Point is, there have been issues with some bios not getting an output when flashing (and the screen being a 4k), thus me asking in case this is a mix of various triggers

So I grab an old monitor from the garage with a lower screen resolution. Low and behold (old saying back in the day) the Dell logo pops right up and right into the BIOS it went. Now the real fun begins. I want to dual load MacOs on my new drive to play around with it on PC hardware. The macOS USB is not recognized by the Dell BIOS (legacy boot is not supported on this version of BIOS) because it is not Fat32. So I am going to sideload this new drive directly to my laptop via SATA to USB Cable to load macOS there then reconnect it to the Dell tower and see what we get. Just for fun and I'm curious if it will work at all.

well well, good that my suspicion was right. Now the main question is how to get it working again with the newer monitor.

If you're under warranty, contact prosupport , because this is something that will require a newer bios with a fix, imho.

@Dell-KodySwenson  , could you maybe escalate this ?
