Dell Precision 3650 Tower - can't add RAM
Just got a Precision workstation T3650 that came with 16GB RAM... want to upgrade to 32GB. No matter what I try, I can't get any other RAM to work in the system. As soon as I put any other RAM than what came with it in, I get the 2/5 blink pattern indicating a RAM pattern. Of course, machine won't boot so I can't access BIOS or anything else. Tried two different brands/manufacturers of RAM, and the specs seem to match what is already in the machine - 8GB , DDR4, PC 25600. I tried modules that are 1.35v and modules that are 1.2V. I tried contacting Dell support and just ended up getting a cryptic email that says "We are not supporting fpr expended ram." I tried to respond to this email several times and have not gotten any further response. And please don't cut and paste some drivel about draining CMOS battery and resetting CMOS blah blah- if I have to waste time and energy on that kind of garbage to upgrade RAM in a brand-new "precision workstation" I might as well return this and go with an HP.

I already tried pulling all the RAM from the system and using two different sets of 8GB modules (in pairs) from two different manufacturers, trying 2 sticks in all slot combinations, and the only ones that work are the original Hynix (from Dell). Dell gave me a model number for RAM they say is correct, and it appears to match the specs of what we bought from both Corsair and Samsung (which didn't work)... no idea why. This is what Dell says I need:
Dell Memory Upgrade - 8GB - 1Rx16 DDR4 UDIMM 3200MHz
Can't see any difference between this and what we bought.... unbuffered , non-ecc... 1.2V, CL22.

Seem to match may be the problem as Dell systems are touchy about mixing RAM manufacturer types. This warning ( Different Memory Vendors mixing within a channel is not allowed and it would cause memory speed down to 2666Mhz or below) on the spec page lends some credence to the fact. The ideal solution is to replace all 8 GB RAM modules with a 32 GB RAM kit from Crucial which is the most compatible RAM for Dell systems. That can be found here.

I am having the exact same issues with my brand new precision 3650. I also tried 1.2v and 1.35v ram sticks, and nothing happens. Just a blank screen. Is there a solution yet to this issue?

I have the same problem, I buy 2 the same systems with 16GB RAM. One computer working fine, second when I put 4 x 8GB RAM modules not start. System restarted but screen is black. I try use other modules from first system but the problem is in my opinion on motherboard. Do You have any idea ???

In order to get a qualified help, first you should fully understand your specs, and second share them here. Down to the last letter in component numbers.
Good luck

P.S.
>Dell Memory Upgrade - 8GB - 1Rx16 DDR4 UDIMM 3200MHz
1Rx16
>unbuffered , non-ecc... 1.2V, CL22.
Are you sure you have unbuffered in your machine?
Mixing is forbidden.. you may have already fried your controller, so some slots my be already disfunctional.
BTW, that sold in retail, particularly by Samsung is oriented on "enthusiasts" who voluntarily take the pain on their, when dealing with overrated SPD. The RAM that Dell installs may seem not very fast, because they use enterprise class modules which pass very different QC, and have guaranteed SPD record with wide tolerances. Unfortunately, this allows DELL engineers making cuts on circuitry and memory bus (BIOS) tweaking, making retail products working worse.
Anyway, lets see while you read out your full specs aloud.

If you go to Crucial or any of the other memory vendors you can search for RAM compatible with your system. RAM slots are in banks - the ejector tabs identify the bank. So if you have 4 ram slots two with white tabs and two with black, install identical memory in both white slots, and identical in both black. Do NOT mix ram types in the same bank...
I added two Crucial DDR4 UDIMMs (the 32GB kit is 2x16GB p/n CT16G4DFD832A) in my Precisioin 3650 and it works without any issues at all.

Hi Geoffrey,
i have the same problem like CambrixGroup, maybe you can help me also? Or does anybody else has already a solution? I have a Precision 3650 with i7-10700 + 8GB RAM U-DIMM (PC4-3200AA)
And now i would like to insert 4x 16GB U DIMM PC4-3200AA, but it doesn't work. Just the memory error code signaled.

Huh?? Samsung has never in over 20 years marketed any memory modules 'oriented' to the enthusiast, performance, or overclocking segments. Samsung original modules are 100% JEDEC and among the most commonly sourced or used by all major OEMs computer manufacturers, even for servers. Search Ebay for 'used' Samsung modules that have photos, you will only find ones bearing OEM labels indicating they are pulled from HP, Dell, Lenovo, and other major computer companies.
lol good lord where you come up with this nonsense? They are just plain DRAM modules with JEDEC SPD mass manufactured by major DRAM companies such Samsung, SK Hynix, Micron, even Kingston (which does not design or fab chips but does have it's own IC packaging and module lines). There is no "special enterprise" recipe or production line only just for Dell special recipe "enterprise class" modules. smdh
Figuring out the new forum comment/formatting, this ginormous spacing between paragraphs that I cannot figure out how to minimize.
