Does Dell still offer a decent keyboard?
I've been using Dell desktop and laptop computers for years and I've always had good keyboards with every Dell desktop (and even decent keyboards on their laptops). So when I was ordering a new Dell Precision 7820 it never crossed my mind to worry about the keyboard that Dell offered in the configuration. I needed a keyboard so I just ordered the one that Dell offered for the 7820. Sadly the keyboard Dell offers with the 7820 is nearly worthless lightweight flimsy thing Dell calls "580-ADJC Dell KB216 Wired Keyboard English" anything I would call it would not be appropriate language in the forum.
My older desktop is still using a Dell keyboard that was apparently a RT7D60 that is well over a decade old. The letters are worn off several of the keys, but the keyboard itself functions perfectly -- and it has full size keys with a decent stroke and the keyboard itself has a decent slant, unlike the chicklet keys and on this new Dell keyboard with barely any tilt at all.
I've looked around the Dell website but it is awfully hard to judge a keyboard from the photos on the website. I'm not really fond of the idea of spending around $200 for some "gaming" keyboard that lights up like a christmas tree in waves of colors.
I know, I'm a boomer. I learned to touch-type over 50 years ago, so yes, I still like keys that move when I press them.
Can anyone suggest a decent keyboard for a typist.
[OMG - the snowflakes have taken over! In the line where it says "I know, I'm a boomer" I had originally written a different word that would be a generic reference to a prehistoric era reptile, but it turns out that the 'bot censoring the forum finds that word offensive. The 'bot also finds the name of the specific era is also offensive).

I specifically ordered very simple Dell KM636. Probably the same as yours.
And it is good. Compact, convenient, rigid and responsive. I don't like Dell's huge alienware style peripherals.
Well, it is not a typewrighter where you should hit buttons deep. It is not a laptop, where touching any button produces random typos. There is some move, some resistance to pressure, and some slumping affect when you overcome the key's resistance. Not a classic "click" though. A good balance for limited typing (engineering work).
For writing essays or fast coding I would recommend a softer keyboard.
BTW, try Logitech bluetooth keyboards. They are a bit softer, but still of very high quality.
