installing a PERC controller H310 on a Precision T3600

Greetings.

In the next days, I will install a Dell PowerEdge RAID Controller (PERC) H310, with workstation (i.e. Precision) firmware, on a T3600 workstation.  I am looking for advice about the PCIe slot that best fits this RAID controller on the machine.

The knowledge base article How to set up Dell PowerEdge RAID Controller H310 cards on a Precision workstation suggests either slot 1 (marked as "preferred") or slot 4.  The Dell Precision T3600 Technical Guidebook (unofficial link) insists (see table at bottom of p.14) this PERC controller can be installed on either slot 1 or 4.

On p.37, the Dell Precision T3600 Owner's Manual notes that slot 1 is a PCIe x16 slot, wired as x4, while slot 4 is a PCIe x16 slot.  It matches both what is written on the mainboard of this workstation, and the Technical Guidebook.  As you know, this PERC controller is a 3.3V PCIe 2.0 x8 card.

I plan to use both SAS cable connectors (marked as "A" and "B"), so the 3.5-inch drives at the bottom of the workstation and the 2.5-inch drives at the 5.25-inch case (DP/N 0WM1YT) will all be attached to the RAID controller.  The optical drive will remain on SATA 0.

Is it really slot 1 the preferred slot for this card even if it is wired as a four lane PCIe slot?

Thanks!

We tried reaching you on a private message asking for the Service Tag number to ascertain the warranty but did not receive a response. Please feel free to reply to the private message whenever you are available.

I have just provided the service tag privately.  I do not know why is this information required: the workstation is a T3600, so it is obviously out of warranty now, and the question is generic to all T3600s (and probably T5600s and T7600s too) workstations.
