NVME M.2 SSD drives in T5820: what is supported?
Hello,
I just ordered a barebones T5820 (Xeon W model, not received it yet) and I understand that it supports one NVME M.2 SSD drives in the Flexbay (plus more with the 4x drive adapter), but I can't find any info on whether there are any particular drives and makes that are supported/not supported. Does anyone have any pointer?

Barebone : does it come with the 3.5" dell adapter for the flexbay slot ?
If yes, it's made for a 2280 m.2, and in theory I think the brand doesn't matter.
If not, the standard caddy would allow an M.2 unit , otherwise you would have to buy the dell adapter or a 3rd party ( example https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B073W65QX6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 )

M2 in the Flex Bay are U2 SAS to PCI-E M2
U.2 / SFF-8643 to SFF-8639
The upgrade is not a sound byte or a ronco set and forget.

575-BBRY - Includes a replacement standard 3.5" HDD carrier. This includes the grommets and conversion required to install either a 3.5" or 2.5" SATA/SAS or U.2 NMVe Drive. SAS and NVMe support in the systems require additional hardware.
575-BBRX - Allows user to replace the existing carriers installed on the system with our locking carrier solution. The carriers here are only compatible with 3.5" or 2.5" SATA/SAS or U.2 NVMe installations. They do not include support for M.2 drives.
M2 is a socket not a storage standard.
Also note that PCI-E M2 drives need a heatsink whereas sata versions do not.
575-BBSH - Allows user to add a front loadable M.2 NVMe (PCIe Gen3 x4) SSD into the system. This module does require that the unit is already configured to support NVMe SSDs in the FlexBay with a PCIE SSD backplane. The required SSD is not included with the module. If the unit is not already configured to support NVMe SSDs in a FlexBay, you will need to also order the conversion kit (750-ABDF for 5820|7820 Tower and 575-BBSP for 7920 Tower).
This module contains
750-ABDF - Allows user to convert FlexBay 1 (top front Flex Bay) into a PCIe enabled FlexBay. After conversion both slots in this bay will be enabled to support PCIe SSDs. With the existing carriers, U.2 2.5" PCIe SSDs can be used. If M.2 NVMe SSDs are desired, the bay is now compatible with 575-BBSH.

I've bought this 3rd party adaptor and cable.....but it didn't work on my 5820's sff8643 port...maybe 5860's sff8643( miniSAS ) ports are different from the ports on common motherboards(ASUS,Gigabyte,MSI...)
