Precision 3620 Tower Motherboard component Popped - What is it?

Hello,

Any one have any idea what the component in the picture is? My dell would not power on or give any flashing lights indicators after plugging the power supply back into the mother board. It was making a funny sound and when trying to identify where he sound was coming from the component in the picture popped and a piece from the center came flying off along with a tiny bit of smoke and burn smell.  Is it the GPU. Is the whole motherboard dead? Im using a PCI-e video card do I dont mind if the on board video card fried but am also afraid to plug everything back in before find out what that component was and what might be the problem as i dont want to burn out anything else. My dell is a precision 3620 tower.

Any help is much appreciated!

Hello,

time for a new motherboard. That kind of issue is likely going to involve more damaged parts than you can visually see.

The integrated gpu is inside the cpu. That thing that went kaboom, is the chipset... and it means a lot of voltage regulators on the board failed, to allow that.

Thanks! appreciate the help. I bought a new board. Fingers crossed, hoping I did not fry the CPU.
