Precision 3630 - Update BIOS 2.17.0 failed
The workstation Precision 3630 failed to update at the last version of BIOS ver. 2.17.0. The logs in BIOS confirm the BIOS failed to update. Now, the version of the BIOS is 2.16.0. Every time, I use an USB key in FAT32 because I protect the motherboard with a strong admin password. I put these settings enable only when I update the firmwares: BIOS Downgrade: enable, BIOS Recovery: enable, UEFI Capture Firmware Updates: enable. It's the first time where I have a computer where he fail to update a firmware! SupportAssist confirm everything work fine without issue. I use Windows 11 22H2 ver. 22621.755 and McAfee Total Protection. Thanks

I have the same problem with my Dell Precision 3630 workstation.
Update from 2.16.0 to 2.17.0 always fail.
I have no Bios setup password etc. set.
I have tried it with the "Dell Command | Update" tool.
With the Windows updater "Precision_3630_2.17.0.exe" started as Administrator (also tried with the option "/forceit")
I also tried unsuccessfully BIOS Recovery Image File "BIOS_IMG.rcv" on a FAT formatted USB-Stick and the F12 Boot option => Bios Flash Updater.
All previous updates from 2.8.0 to 2.9.1 to 2.10.0 to 2.11.0 to 2.12.0 to 2.13.0 to 2.14.1 to 2.15.0 to 2.16.0 work without any problem.

Hello @Andreas5151 , to update BIOS from F12 menu, you need to use Precision_3630_2.17.0.exe on a USB with FAT32.

For your information, "BIOS_IMG.rcv" and "Precision_3630_2.17.0.exe" from Dell are binary identical.
So I tried this already, as I wrote in my last post and it fails also.

You can flash the BIOS to a lower version than the current one on your system, then reflash to the latest.

Hello Andreas5151, Dell Command Update have only show one time to update BIOS to the version 2.17! But, I prefer the method USB stick. By this method, every update work fine until version 2.16!

Hi all, I choose this other method: Launch the execute file "Precision_3630_2.17.0.exe" in OS Windows. This tool asked to enter my BIOS password. It updated my BIOS version 2.16 to new version 2.17.0 . The problem is resolved! Thanks.

Hi Miggarti,
good to hear that you could solve your update problem.
For me no one from the 3 update methods solved the problem.

As I already wrote, also to clear the setup password had not helped.
I always get this error message:
Tomorrow I will change the BIOS settings that a downgrade is allowed and will try the idea from Chino de Oro.

Problem solved, I have to enable "Allow BIOS Downgrade" to Update my BIOS from 2.16.0 to 2.17.0! - Is this Dell humor?
(Info: A downgrade was not necessary, I updated directly, like previously tried, from 2.16.0 to 2.17.0 but at this try, I enabled the downgrade feature for the update.)
For all previous updates from 2.8.0 to 2.9.1 to 2.10.0 to 2.11.0 to 2.12.0 to 2.13.0 to 2.14.1 to 2.15.0 to 2.16.0 it worked without any problem with the "Allow BIOS Downgrade" disabled. => Must be a bug in the 2.17.0 BIOS update file.
