Precision 3650 change case?

Hi everyone,

Due to Precision 3650 Tower small case too hot during cpu full loading, Can I change original case to Micro-ATX Case with other cooler?(I had a Lian Li PC-A04)

Maybe change UPS if oem 550W USP not be appled to mATX case?

P.S. i9-11900K; 32GB ram; 1TB SSD; 4TB HDD; Radeon Pro W5500

After add a 120mm USB fan with middle speed on the top of case , full load CPU the clock increase from 39x to 41x with keep 90C°.

@alee001

Glad to see it's working out.  Your adding an external fan was a great idea.  Some years ago, I had a Gateway AIO that I added 2 external fans to.

How to attach that black heatsink there???

and did you add the VRM heatsink ?  it may reduce the temperature after added the VRM heatsink

This is another precision which I owned...  ( another one is 3640 )

it is 11500 cpu + RTX3080 10G

I have upgraded to so-called 125W cooler and VRM but no help... fully load will near 100C....

(e.g. using intel processor diagnostic program)

It just a 11500 CPU.... Y_Y

I have added a Noctua 80mm fan there and temperature is dropped 10C around....

but using fan splitter cable make the other front fan speed a bit lower than before...

tbh..I don't think this machine can use with 11700 or up.....

all core 100% loading achieve 4.2 at first, when temperature over 85C, it will slower down to 3.7 only

even 11500 at this way.... how can people using 3650 with 1160+ ???

I once wanted to replace a 120mm fan on the top instead of the original 92mm, but there is no suitable frame and the air outlet is also limited in diameter, the design is a bit poor...

Although self-improved heat dissipation, if you do not turn on the air conditioner to work in an indoor environment of 29 degrees, about 6.3% of the workstation load has triggered thermal throttling? !

Let me guess.  Put it by the a.c. vent or by the a.c.

I think improving cooling for CPUs in this case is much easier than people think. The top fan is too thick so it only gets partial airflow where it's not blocked by the power supply. A slimmer 120mm fan should help by allowing more airspace. I'll try it if I can find a 25mm thick high flow fan. Most are low speed for quietness, but you need a high speed one like the stock fans which will then be throttled down by the motherboard

Hello @alee001 , Re:  I once wanted to replace a 120mm fan on the top instead of the original 92mm, but there is no suitable frame and the air outlet is also limited in diameter, the design is a bit poor...

Have you try the 120mm exhaust fan with bracket from Alienware.  Some users replaced it on the XPS 8930 in combination with addition of front fans and they got their thermal issue under control.

Thanks for your advice, I don't think even replacing the 120mm fan would do much (although it would) since the top cover exhaust is only 105mm wide.

The lack of space in the chassis design resulted in the original radiator being thin, which has been the worst part of this workstation affecting performance.

This picture explains why I want to change the case...

I thought that you had resolved the heat issue.  My suggestion was to increase the air movement by upgrading top fan to 120mm and another intake front fan.  Review this thread and see if it may work with your system, they have a similar case and the bracket from Alienware has bigger diameter opening.

After installation, although the full load temperature remains at 90C°, the average bandwidth is increased from 35x to 38x.
