Precision 3660 - GPU´s NVIDIA RTX 30x0/40x0 - any approval

Hi,

since Dell doesn't offer any NVIDIA RTX 30x0 or RTX 40x0 for the Precision 3660 Modell, i would like to get either a DELL OEM from ebay or a third party Card.

I asked sales and technical support - they have no knowledge about this ...

From the Technical Guide Book the following NVIDIA GPU's are approved for the 500W power supplies.

NVIDIA RTX 3060
NVIDIA RTX 3070

From the BIOS updates, without specifying a power supply rating, the following are added.

NVIDIA RTX 4080
NVIDIA RTX 4090

From the setup and specs for the 3660 without specifying a power supply performance the following are added.

NVIDIA RTX 3080
NVIDIA RTX 3080 TI
NVIDIA RTX 3090
NVIDIA RTX 3090TI

The 4000 series is not represented in the spec's, only in some of the BIOS release notes.

Has anyone used a card from another manufacturer (Asus, Gainward or MSI)?

I am aware that the 500W limit is relevant here and also that only 1x6 PIN and 1x8 PIN of the power supply are available. But Dell support doesn´t respond to any requests and sales has not information.

Maybe someone has already installed such a card.

Thanks

Jürgen

PS.: Before someone from Dell asks for a service tag, clarify internally the currently released cards for the BIOS 2.7.0 and publish it here or in the FAQ's for the 3660 model.

You could upgrade the psu with either the 750W or the 1000W one, thus removing the power constraint.

You could go the quadro rtx path, too ( they are way less power hungry ) and use a rtx A2000 ( 70w , no extra power ) or rtx A4000 ( 140w , one of the 2 power connectors you have is enough ), if you find a reasonable bargain.

Technical specs and supports aside, many users have tested their systems on benchmarking site.  Gathering from samples configurations, most popular with high performance yields are systems with RTX 3080 and 3090

The first requirement for these configurations is power supply, and the second is fitments.  Retail cards may have the same performance and power requirement but they are different in shapes and sizes.

With any of those cards, watts and PSU requirements can be Googled.

Seems to me someone is reading along in the forums,
alternatively support requests are read but quietly added to the product.

As of September 12, there is a new bios version 2.8.1 with the note ...

Support for NVIDIA RTX 4090, 5000 Ada, 6000 Ada, 4060 and 4070 graphics cards in Dell Precision Fixed Workstation

Thanks to the kind spirit ...

RTX 4090 is now officially available for Precision 3660 workstation. It seems that not every country's web page has this set-up yet, at least in Canada it's available online as well. For others, you might need to reach out to sales rep.

Just received my new Precision 3660 with 13900K and RTX 4090. Seems that the DELL RTX 4090 is rather short and comes with angled 12VHPWR power adapter (Dell part number 0Y35RH) to fit.

Not sure yet though if the system is overheating as it has already crashed twice during benchmarking. I might need to RMA the whole unit.

Hi,

I am on the lookout for purchasing a GPU for my  precision 3660 tower with 1000W PSU.

Following below mentioned GPU's are my preference.

1) MSI  or ASUS RTX 3090 Ti.
2) Sapphire Pure Rx 7800 xt.

Before purchasing the GPU, I would like to ensure on the fitment of the GPU within the cabinet.

Most of the GPU's now days are 320mm (L) x150mm (H) x55mm (W) approx.

I am particularly worried about these highlighted parts in the pic 1) blue color latch and 2) pads.

I suspect it may interfere with the GPU width i.e. 55mm.

Has any one already successfully installed either RTX 3090 Ti or Rx 7800 xt ?

@Simbe90

Hi,

If possible can you share the dimensions of your RTX 4090 ?

Thanks.
