Hi @nagachn  What is your Alienware system? For example: the post m15 R3 SSD Upgrade Options linked to Custom Built Alienware M15 R3 whose list includes the Samsung 970 EVO PLUS 2 TB M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe 3D-VNAND SSD and a 8TB drive is also listed.

Hi @nagachn  users are reporting that their computer system will accept a 2TB OS (C:) drive. Seems your system does not, but this information is of no use because nobody knows what computer system you have.

Hi All,

The Windows 10 will not support the 2TB SSD as a BOOTABLE disk however it will support as a storage space. I fixed the issue with the help of 500GB SSD. Windows 10 is perfectly booting with 500GB HDD. All the issues are resolved.

Thanks.

Dell Precision 7920 Tower Owner's Manual, Card Slots says use PCIe Gen 3.0 x16 (x8).

Samsung 970 Evo Plus is a PCIe Gen 3.0 x4, NVMe 1.3 drive.

Dell Precision Workstation: Install M.2 Module, Thanks to Rosin, who says...

I don't know if this will help others, but this is what 3 hours on the phone, 10 transfers, and incompetent Dell employees helped me confirm:

To install a PCIe 3.0 x4 NVME M.2 style SSD in the Flex Bay area of my Dell Precision Work Tower 7820, I need 4 parts from Dell:

1. Part# 1HH93 - Controller unit for motherboard ($30.99 USD)

2. Part# KWF76 - Backplane for module plug-in ($84.99 USD)

3. Part# FRYKM - Module for SSD (adaptor) ($49.99 USD)

4. Part# JX33G - Flex Bay casing (to hold module) ($11.99 USD)

NOTE: these part numbers *cannot be searched online or purchased without speaking to Sales*. And it might not be easy for them to find the parts. I also have no information on if these parts are applicable to other workstations.

DELL - THIS IS NOT EASY OR STRAIGHTFORWARD FOR ANYONE TO FIGURE OUT. This kind of information should be easy to look up, parts should be available to search on your website, and customers should not have to dig and dig to find out what parts they need and how it works.

Or you could get a PCIe carrier for your M2 module. Maybe about £15/£20 and 5 minutes to install.

I've followed the other thread he posted into ( OP ).

He is using from the start a dell pci-e card adapter , to use the nvme 2tb evo plus. So the issue seems that for some reason the dell adapter with the 2tb drive in it, is allowing to install windows, but not to boot windows.

What remains to be understood / discovered, is if :

1) is due to the bios ?

2) is due to the adapter requiring a newer one ? ( trying with a different model / brand adapter would be a good test )

@crimsom NVME backplane kits are available on eBay for around $200, but they do not include the M2 stick carrier module/adapter. This is more expensive than Dell, but less of a hassle.

@mazzinia I wonder if secure boot is on in the BIOS? Secure boot checks the signature of device firmware, before permitting the system to boot. If the installed PCIe adapter card firmware doesn't pass, it will refuse to boot. One option is to turn it off, and see what happens. The other is to test a different adapter.
