SSD heat sink thickness

I want to add two 2TB SSD to my precision 3660, using position C2 and C3. I see that the Dell supplied boot drive has a 4-6mm thick heat sink on the motherboard, under the ssd. I also see that the C2 and C3 positions have labels noting where to put heat sinks under the added ssd. The ssd I will add have heat sinks, but 95% of the heat sink is above the ssd, not underneath. How thick should the heat sinks be that i place on the motherboard, under the new ssd's at position C2 and C3? Both will be 2280 size.

From the standard thickness of the M.2 connector or the height of the standoff, I would say around 5 mm of pad you will need.

Have some good results with Arctic TP-3 product.  You can triple up their 1.5 mm pad for thickness and cut it to the length of the marking on motherboard.

If you buy and use an upper radiator, you don't need to install the dell original bottom thermal pad.

I have exactly the same question. What should the thickness and conductivity (W/mK) be for the pad? Also, would you recommend installing heat sinks on the top side of the Nvme drives or is the foam heat sink enough?

Running 5mm micro connector heat sinks on all three M2  drives. Plenty of space and they drop temp 10 degrees centigrade,
