T5600 memory configurations?
According to this page https://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/sln285289/why-my-precision-workstation-t5600-won-t-post-boot-or-recognize-memory-correctly-after-upgrading-the-memory?lang=en
For a dual CPU T5600 with 64GB it shows the supported configuration is 8 x 8GB DIMMs installed populating all DIMM slots (4 per CPU). Would it be OK with 4 x 16GB DIMMs installed in slots 1 & 2 for each CPU?
CPUs are E5-2665.

As part of the upgrade of my T5600 I purchased 64GB (4 * 16GB DIMMs) and installed them in my single Xeon E5 2603, occupying all 4 DIMM slots for the CPU. Obviously this worked fine and the PC was in Quad Channel memory mode (best performance). I have now upgraded to dual Xeon E5 2665's and split the memory between the CPU's so its now running in Dual Channel memory mode with each CPU having 2 * 16GB DIMMs. This is less efficient that Quad Channel mode, however the performance drop is negligible as far as I can tell and what I have read.
I guess I could have purchased 8 * 8GB DIMMs as opposed to 4 * 16GB and populated all 8 DIMM slots, however I had already clicked buy... If I want to upgrade to 128GB in the future I have the option so its not that bad.
