Windows 11 Windows 10 - Dell Workstation TPM 2.0 firmware update procedure - 100% Working
If you have a Dell product with an available TPM firmware update ( TPM1.2 >>> TPM2.0) you may find the firmware update process does not complete or fails due to an "ownership" conflict. If you are running Windows 10 or 11, at the first boot the Operating System will undertake "provisioning" and when this happens you wont be able to easily update the firmware because ownership is registered in the TPM module.
To overcome this problem I have found the method below works for Precision Workstation T7810, results may vary but it will most likely work for every TPM 2.0 update as the fundamentals will always be very similar or the same.
I am giving the most basic notes and I am assuming you have basic Windows skills under CMD, PowerShell and Search and you know how to open CMD or PowerShell as Administrator
For this to work your TPM must be ON and ENABLED (two settings found for TPM found in F2 BIOS menu under SECURITY)
Step 1: Disable TPM provisioning
In your Windows environment
Open POWERSHELL as Administrator and execute the following command
Disable-TpmAutoProvisioning
Step 2: Open the TPM control panel
In your Windows environment
Search for TPM.MSC, open this control app
Under actions hit CLEAR TPM
Your computer will reboot
Step 3: Update TPM firmware
In your Windows environment
Download and run the suitable DELL TPM firmware update required for your machine
Most likely TPM 2.0 firmware
Your computer will reboot
Your computer will go into FLASH MODE
You computer will reboot.
If there is a long delay of several minutes you may have to long-press the power ON button.
Step 4: F2 BIOS settings
In your BIOS environment
At bootup press F2 BIOS and set all parameters to DEFAULT to clear out all prior bios parameters
Exit
You computer will reboot
Your computer may reboot 2 to 5 times depending on the hardware configuration. Do not be alarmed by this frequent reboot and prolonged boot time.
Step 5: F2 Check bios settings
In your BIOS environment
Enter F2 BIOS and confirm the settings are according to your preferences
Apply
Exit
You computer will reboot
Step 6: Enable TPM provisioning
In your Windows environment
Open POWERSHELL as Administrator and execute the following command
Enable-TpmAutoProvisioning
Reboot
Step 7: Confirm TPM 2.0 in Device Manager
In your Windows environment open Device Manager
Why do you need this feature ?
- Windows 11 installation
- Enable NVME bootup from PCIe slot (this appears to be the case with T7810 and T5810)
