Adding 2nd M.2 2230 SSD to Precision 3530: bracket needed

Yes, I would definitely be interested to know if larger ssd works as well, if you have the possibility to test that. The reason I think this is the case is that the physical connection is pcie so it should not differentiate between the devices actually connected through that interface. That device can be a 4G LTE, ssd etc. Again, what matters is that the device's interface is a pcie too.

I installed a 512 GB SSD in the WWAN slot. And earlier in this tread @mirian also mentioned installing a 512GB ssd. So you can definitely install more than 256 GB. Maybe that was just the largest size Dell itself offered when writing the manual or something.

Hi, Thanks for the great news. Would you be kind to share the model of the 512 GB ssd that you tested? I am only aware of Sabrent and Lexar offering M.2 2242 at this capacity.

I bought a precision 3551 and saw the WWAN/LTE/SSD slot. I looked in the manual and did some research, Dell support didnt seem to know aanything about this slot.

When I plug a WD 512GB 2230 into the slot with the existing M.2 NVM Hynix 1TB, it wont boot and hangs on the setup screen. If I remove the M.2 Hynix, it detects ithe 2230. 

I wish I had intepreted the owners manual better, that I needed a 2242 drive, not a 2230. The slot is actually a m.2 3042 Key-B. If I can solve this issue, I wcan get a 2230 --> 2242 bracket.

Has anyone gotten both m.2 working? I wonder why it hangs on the setup screen. Perhaps it is the WIndows 10 boot manager? I hope so! This drive was pricey!  Perhaps it is incompatability with the hynix

When i change the original 2280 m2 Disk for a NVME, i was going to put a m2 to SATA converter, but i preffer buy a 92W battery

So, i try put the original 2280 SSD 1TB mSata in WWAN port, and IT WORKS. So, my next goal was try tu put the 2280 mSata in WWAN port and put the cover.

Finally I have to cut some plastic near the wwan socket, and 2 mm of the bracket, but it fits perfectly. And the BIOS recognize with no problem.

I had to get another screw but after installation and drive formatting the 500GB drive is working great. 

I'm not sure why so many replies are talking about 2230 and an adapter, the slot is for a B-Coded 2242, so just buy a 2242 with the B-code slot. B-Code is the important part as even people buying 2230 drives and a 2242 adapter will need to watch out for this and most of these drives are M-coded and won't fit.

The easy way to know you have B-Code is to buy one with two notches in the pin area (all of those will work as they are dual B and M code). If it has a single notch that has 6 pins instead of 5 on the little part, that is B-code only. If the drive is shown with the pins on the right (90% of the drives on amazon), B-code is a notch toward the top. If the pins are on the left, B-Code is a notch at the bottom.
