Command Update, Support Assist errors and system shutdown
Hello I have a Precision 3551 and I'm experiencing these problems:
since yesterday I can no longer run Dell Command Update. The application splash screen starts and then disappears.
Also if I run SupportAssist, it shows a message "An error has occurred, etc...."
I tried to unistall both of them and download fresh installation packages from Dell support site.
Support Assist won't install anymore.
Command Update ends with an error 1920 Service Dell Client Management Service failed to start.
In windows event log I see this entry:
{ServiceShell.Program->FATAL} Failed to Secure the service root folder
System.Exception: Failed to Secure the service root folder
in ServiceShell.Program.Main()
I'm no longer able to update my system.
Also some time to time, a "slide to shutdown" panel appears and system suddenly shuts down without any other action. When this happens, no evidence is shown in the windows event log except a "Windows Error Reporting" with LiveKernelEvent event name.
Any suggestion?

@MikaelZewgren Very late to this thread but THANK YOU from the future! This is the answer! If you only knew how long this issue has been plaguing me. I guess my Google skills were lacking if I didn't find this solution until now nearly two years later. This was happening on every computer at our organization. Removing Everyone from the ProgramData permissions fixed it immediately. Freaking Sketchup all along!! [shakes fist]

Thanks for the advice, renaming the C:\ProgramData\Dell\UpdateService directory to UpdateService.old and then running the install as Admin worked for me.

This issue was resolved for us by following DailenG's advice to delete the original folder in C:\ProgramData\Dell\UpdateService
After deleting UpdateService, we were able to install Dell Command Update without issue.
