Dell Precision 5760 issues - I can't take this anymore!

I've been having issues since day 1 using this laptop (Dell Precision 5760). The first issue was bluetooth mouse/keyboard lagg. After countless of hours of messaging back and forth with Dell support, I've been notified by @DELL-Cares that Dell engineers will fix the issue in the next BIOS update, which nobody knows when it's going to be released.

Another issue i'm having which is driving me nuts is the laptop would randomly crash when it's on sleep mode. I face this issue more often when the laptop is connected to a docking station (WD19). When I finish work and put the laptop to sleep I notice it would randomly wake up at night and go back to sleep again. After a few hours the laptop would randomly crash and display the blue screen where it starts a hardware test (it always passes the test).

I just don't get why the laptop keeps crashing on sleep mode?? the issues has been causing me endless frustrations and i'm furious about Dell incomptetence dealing with those issues.

Update:

I'd like to update that the laptop crashed in sleep mode again this last evening. The last fix unfortunately didn't completely resolve the issue.

Hi.

We have received an update from our engineering team. They have requested to share the complete memory dump file so that they can review the same.

We have a custom Precision 5560 that seemed to be having these exact issues, and I wish I would've found this thread prior the laptop being shipped off to the Dell repair center. A Dell tech came out to replace the motherboard just like you mentioned, and after doing so, the laptop wouldn't even power on. That was 3 weeks ago, and it's now stuck at their repair center with no ETA on whatever replacement part it needs... such a disappointing situation.

I'm curious if this issue is still present in Windows 11? Maybe a hail-mary solution, but it might be worth attempting @MajZoa

I refused to replace the motherboard because I am convinced it's a design flaw that all new laptops are suffering from. Replacing the motherboard would increase the chance of introducing more issues (just like what happened in your case) and this isn't something I am willing to do for a brand new 4500$ laptop.

Answeing your question, yes, this issue persists on Windows 11. It originally appreared on Windows 11 and after downgrading to Windows 10 nothing changed. Imagine the frustration of downgrading, formatting then upgrading back to Windows 11 as some representatives suggested then downgrading back to Windows 10 and formatting again and again while jumping between different representatives.

Currently, i'm trying to recreate the crashing issue to send a complete dump file for engineers to analyse but I'd estimate it would take months to years for them to completely solve those issues. Until then, I would advise against buying Dell laptops and would suggest for anyone who can receive a refund to do so. I am saddened to say this after being a DELL user for more than a decade but those issues are critical. I will keep updating , good luck.

Hi MajZoa, I could see the crash during sleep on my Inspiron 5405 with Win 10 Home and Win 11 Home. In both cases no other changes to the basic system installation but the Windows updates and Dell drivers installed. The drivers are directly from the Dell Support page, so it's not related to Dell SupportAssist and optimization of it. Once I install the Qualcomm driver (12.0.0.1118, A47, but also with the previous version) the system will crash when in transition to the sleep modes.

Update:

None of the issues were solved yet. The last BIOS version 1.9.1 did not address any of the issues mentioned in this thread.

I have generated a complete dump file after the last crash and it was sent to @DELL-Cares as per their request so engineers can analyze what's going on...

How so I send a complete dump from my system?

I followed @DELL-Cares instructions:

"Please follow the below steps and share the complete memory dump files as requested by our engineering team.

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2. Double-click System, and then click Advanced system settings.

3. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.

4. In the Write debugging information list, click Complete memory dump"

Keep in mind, the laptop needs to crash to generate the dump file after you make the changes above. When the laptop crashes, locate the dump file in "%SystemRoot%\MEMORY.DMP". The file is large (30GB+ in my case). I hope the engineers find the root cause of all the issues.

The BIOS update didn't address the issue but the workarounds still work (like disabling S0 or turning off fingerprint-reader device). That's regarding the crash issue. As for the other issues, there's no fix.

@MajZoa Had you re-enabled modern standby (S0) to check for resolution, or does it happen automatically with a BIOS update? I'd like to ensure the workaround won't be reverted and my user gets surprised with another unexpected crash.

@MajZoa I had a possible similar crashing issue on my 7760 as well when connecting to WD19 docking. Was your laptop crash only happen when connecting to the WD19 docking? will it happen if you disconnect with the docking?

Have you tried BlueScreenView to check error code when crashing

I’m not sure if crashing happens when the laptop isn’t connected to WD19 because it’s usually connected to it when it’s asleep and the crashing seems to only happen during sleep mode. The BlueScreenView results came out similar to another affected user who posted this:

https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/XPS-17-9700-crashes-when-sleeping-fingerprint-to-blame/td-p/7661470https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/XPS-17-9700-crashes-when-sleeping-Goodix-fingerprint-to-blame/m-p/7789989#M77427

I sent those results to Dell engineers but they have no idea.

We’re waiting for response now from them after I sent them a complete dump file generated by another crash.

I noticed the crashing happens less frequently in the past few weeks. It used to happen almost daily (once every day or two) and now it crashes once or twice a week.

Edit: By the way, do you also experience random waking up while the laptop is sleeping while being connected to WD19 on your model?

This sounds eerily similar to open problems with my 7760 with wd19 dock. You can see multiple Community cases open unresolved under my name. Weeks ago I experienced 2 crashes including one bluescreen related to sleeping while dock attached. Now experiencing multiple file system and windows oddities including windows explorer hanging/crashing, filesystem names (e.g. E: F:) randomly changing, and mouse cursor lagging. Sleeping issues seem to complicate the file access and cursor issues. In my case these issues occur with and without the dock attached.

There is an open ticket being coordinated through ProSupport, and Engineering team is currently evaluating my symptoms but I have not heard anything from them.

Can someone coordinate to make sure all this information is evaluated altogether?

I have demonstrated to Dell on many occasions that it’s an issue by design which is likely caused by Modern Standby (S0). Yet, they don’t seem to get or admit the severity of the issues which are widespread across all models that support (S0). Coordinating such effort is time consuming but maybe we can set a discord channel for all affected users to join forces?

I’ve already spent around 300 hours in 8 months troubleshooting problems on two 7760s and an XPS, and I’m not sure if it’s a Dell problem or a Microsoft problem. But I am at the end of my patience, and I need this $5000 system to be functional. Maybe Mr. Dell himself will give us an ear.
