Dell Precision 5760 issues - I can't take this anymore!

I've been having issues since day 1 using this laptop (Dell Precision 5760). The first issue was bluetooth mouse/keyboard lagg. After countless of hours of messaging back and forth with Dell support, I've been notified by @DELL-Cares that Dell engineers will fix the issue in the next BIOS update, which nobody knows when it's going to be released.

Another issue i'm having which is driving me nuts is the laptop would randomly crash when it's on sleep mode. I face this issue more often when the laptop is connected to a docking station (WD19). When I finish work and put the laptop to sleep I notice it would randomly wake up at night and go back to sleep again. After a few hours the laptop would randomly crash and display the blue screen where it starts a hardware test (it always passes the test).

I just don't get why the laptop keeps crashing on sleep mode?? the issues has been causing me endless frustrations and i'm furious about Dell incomptetence dealing with those issues.

I have wasted well over 100 hours on that for the past few months and totally get your frustration. I literally lost it at times. The worst part is I don't trust them to fix the issues anytime soon.

There are countless of posts of people experiencing crashes during sleep mode. I'm not sure making another one would help. It should be obvious to Dell by now that the issue is widespread across most of machines supporting Modern Standby (S0). In my honest opinion, they are aware of this but unable to solve it and are out of control. It could be something that Microsoft has to tweak or work with Dell and other laptop manufacturers to coordinate and solve together to end this show.

If Dell cannot solve this problem, then perhaps they should be partnering with @Microsoft on this — and many other issues. @MichaelDell

All these problems have interrupted my production for the last 8 months and impacted my business.

These ongoing problems directly cost me money — especially when I am interrupted at least 2 hours every day by new or ongoing problems that have no resolution. For each hour I spend with Dell problems, I lose $125, so I figure that Dell owes me a new car.

I have tested my Inspiron 5405 with basic Win 10 (plus updates + Dell recommended drivers and all Dell drivers) and Win 11 (plus updates + Dell recommended drivers / Dell SupportAssist) and with a lot of Dell Community Support Engineers but didn't solve the issue yet. As I'm using a remote desktop session it's mostly annoying to shut down the system and start it again to reactivate the WLAN, but at least I'm not loosing my data every time the system crashs.

I would highly appreciate if we could move/create a top level topic (crash while in 'modern standby').

Update:

I am now testing the laptop after installing a new Goodfix fingerprint scanner driver (3.4.39.260) which was suggested by @DELL-Cares  and Dell engineers. In previous BlueScreenView analysis of the .dmp files, the crashing was related to/caused by Goodix fingerprint scanner so I hope this update resolves the crashing while in sleep mode.

I am now testing and will keep you updated with the results. *Fingers crossed*

Owner of a - very expensive - Latitude 9420 myself. I, too, have regular BSOD's coming off of sleep.

My symptom usually is that the LEDs of the Windows Hello camera won't fire up. I will log in using my pin, and a few minutes later the laptop will crash with a BSOD and a POWER_STATE_FAILURE code or similar. Sounds indeed like a power management or driver issue.

Another thing is that the laptop will NOT go to sleep when plugged in. Ever! Eventually, temperatures rise, fans start spinning wildly, and so on; this is not acceptable behaviour. Even worse, sometimes this happens with the laptop unplugged, and - occasionally - tucked away inside a bag or something, for hours, until the battery is drained. After that happens, the laptop's underneath is just to hot to touch for minutes. I reckon that this is detrimental for the wellbeing of the components inside.

[btw, possibly related issue: "Latitude-9420-BSOD-after-sleep..." ]

Update:

After more than a week of testing, the laptop has been stable and didn't experience crashing while in sleep mode after installing the new Goodix fingerprint scanner driver (3.4.39.260). The BlueScreenView analysis of the DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE crashing was pointing to the Goodix fingerprint scanner all the time and this was reported to @DELL-Cares and engineers so i'm hopeful the new driver addressed the crashing issue and solved it permenantly.

I will continue working on and cooperating with Dell to address the other issue regarding random waking up from sleep mode (Modern Standby).

I'm happy to update that the Goodix Fingerprint Sensor driver 3.4.39.260 (which addresses and solves the crashing in Modern Standby or sleep) has been publicly released on June 20th.

As of now, this driver update has permanently solved the crashing issue.

I'm now in contact with @DELL-Cares and cooperating with them to troubleshoot the random waking up from Modern Standby issue.

A similar user described the same issue here with similar event viewer results as mine:

Update:

Unfortunately, regarding Modern Standby issues where laptops don’t actually sleep and randomly wake up (if you commute with laptops supporting this mode, expect them to melt down in your backpack) there was no fix. And the way I see things, it’s highly unlikely there will be one anytime soon. It’s such a disappointment to see Dell adopt such a dangerous and unreliable power mode.

I think I will switch completely to hibernation mode despite the inconvenience of slow boot time but it's a much safer and more reliable than the faulty Modern Standby (S0).

At its current form, Modern Standby (S0) will cause Dell and other companies who adopt it irreversible damages. I will do my best to warn people about using laptops that support this dangerous mode so no one has to deal with the inconvenience i'm dealing with.

I will leave this here, and the web is filled with articles like this:

I also have had lock up issues with my WD19 dock connected to my new 5760
Which by the way worked perfectly on my 6 year old XPS 15

On the 5760 I cannot close my laptop at all or it will completely lose the configuration of my monitors and the only way to fix the display settings it is to restart

This has forced me to change the way I work, so now I have to do a complete shut down every night.

I also noticed that in the event of a power outage, even though the laptop has battery, it will completely lock up if the dock is connected and has to be hard restarted to recover.
I have all the latest BIOS and dock drivers etc.

I am so frustrated I purchased the new WD24 even though my WD24 is only 2 years old

I made a typo in my original post, I have the WD19TB and upgraded to the WD24TB4
After installing swapping out the WD19TB with the WD24TB4 leaving all the cables and even the power supply as is (180w) all my display issues are resolved. I can only assume the WD19TB is somehow not compatible with Windows 11 or the 5760.  My WD19 is still new and under warrantee but was purchased prior to the release of Windows 11 so unsure what my case would be, but my opinion is that Dell should clearly state the WD19TB is not compatible with Windows 11 or create/release a fix/update.

I might add/repeat that the WD19TB worked flawlessly with my 6 year old XPS 15 Windows 10 Pro and  laptop and I never once had a single issue with that configuration.
