m6700 - USB3 ports not working
Greetings, community.
I have a Dell Precision m6700 back from 2013. Service tag: .
The problem: USB3 ports don't work under Windows 7x64.
Currently the laptop is after fresh reinstall of Win7, and does not contain any relevant data, all experiments are possible.
In BIOS I've found the USB3 checkbox, it's "turned on".
As a test I used also Ubuntu boot pendrive ("try ubuntu" option) - and there the ports are running fine, so the hardware is operational.
First I naturally tried all downloads from:
None seems to work (including Automatic SupportAssist app)
M6700 runs on Intel QM77 chipset, so I tried downloads from Intel directly, no luck either. "No downloads available for this product".
In windows device manager, there is one uninstalled device. ID is "1E31". Windows is unable to automatically download the driver. After installing EVERYTING from Dell's download page applicable to my service tag, the unrecgonized device start to appear as "C216 Family USB Controller". I am confused there, because the QM77 shoud appear as ID "1E55".
My last resort is to try drivers from unofficial distribution, risking malware threat. But that's not really a serious option.
I would highly appreciate any suggestions.

I haven't tried that one because it's not listed as applicable to my service tag.
I'll make full reinstall, all update cycles, then I'll try the one from Your link on a clean system.
I'll come back with the result, thanks.

Hi, I.m coming back with the results.
- I made clean WIndows installation, including all updates, but without any dell drivers yet.
- Installation of the driver from the link above resulted with BSOD. Windows was able to recover after the crash.
- I flashed the BIOS. The BIOS version was up-to-date anyway , but You know, just in case. The flash was succesfull.
- Then I tried installing the driver again. The procedure /8unpacking, installing went flawlessly. I clicked final CLOSE button after driver installation, and BSOD occured 2 seconds afterwards.
- This time Windows needed to use the recovery point to return to functionality. I guess that's the state before the driver installation.
USB3 is naturally still not operational.

Hey boss,
I am experiencing the same issue. Mine happened completely out of the blue, but I want to say it corresponded with the Windows 10 update to 20H2, but I cannot confirm that because, like you I have tried every driver I can find. The driver package that was linked tells me me that the Operating system is not supported.
I've tried force installing just the x64 driver "iusbxhc" and am still met with an error code 10.
Any chance you or anyone else has figure this out?

Swap out the motherboard, This would be the only way to solve your problem,

With a W10 update stopping the USB ports from functioning, you would replace the system board???
W10 updates producing COM port problems is very common.
Wait for a Dell update or the next W10 update and see if things change first.
