Max Physical thickness for NVMe SSD in Mobile Precision 7780

Hi,

This issue is somewhat resolved in that I believe there is no undue restriction on NVMe thickness.
Based on this, I am currently ordering 3 * Sabrent 8TB Rocket 4 Plus NVMe PCIe 4.0 M.2 Internal SSD without heatsink.

Article https://dell.to/3HOZHnD shows only up to 4TB - but is this because DELL does not have a Dell-labeled 8TB?

I am assuming that a non-Dell branded 8TB drive should work.

Please confirm that I can install 3 of the above mention 8TB devices into the 7780.

I am told that the 7780 has built in heatsinks in the NVMe drive bays.

Has Dell got any information regarding 4TB or 8TB NVMe performance in the 7780, regarding heat generated from high usage?

Is it OK for me to proceed with 3 * 8TB NVMe drives?

Yay - an unbiased human response

I chased around Dell Cares all yesterday and before and got nowhere

I suspect the reason is that Dell only goes up to 4TB and they would rather not assist a non-Dell item.

The upgrade from 1TB boot NVMe to 4TB on Dell is $1799 or so)

A new 8TB is $999  -  go figure !

I then go hold of Sabrent, and in less than an hours I got all the info I wanted. (queue: Another smiley-face)

So your affirmation is great to have - thanks.

The Sabrent heatsink is removeable which is great because if at some point I want to move these NVMes to a desktop, I can just put them back on. (So I will buy with heatsink, rather than without)

So with fingers partially crossed, I'm ordering 3 * 8TB off BHphoto - but now they've gone to sleep for the pat 6 hours or so.

AAAaaargh!!

This week I installed 2 x 8TB Corsair MP600ProNH Gen4 PCIe x4 M.2 NVMe in my 7780 as my data drives and 1 x 2TB WD NVMe that I had lying around as my TEMP drive. A nice feature of the Corsair SSD is that it does not appear to require a massive heat sink, as some others appear to do,  and was comfortably accommodated within the 7780.

All is working well.

The price of the two 8TB NVMe SSDs was less than Dell wanted to charge me for a single 4TB SSD.
