no audio, code 45, support assist test fails with D0702
Hi
Precision 5550. No audio in or out (code 45) and suspect hardware fail.
support assist returns this
- PCI Status - Fail
- PCI Status Tests - D0702
- HDAudio Controller - Fail
- PCI Status Tests - D0702
But I cannot find what this means online. Was ok when I bought the machine recently, but windows update has occurred since. SFC etc does not help.
Any suggestions? Still under dell warranty.
thanks
Tony

This sounds like a hardware fail which would be on the MB. Run diagnostics one more time (tap F12 immediately at boot) and watch for additional error codes. This MS forum page may help though a bit lengthy. Since you are under warranty I would also suggest calling Dell tech support if the above does not help.

We tried reaching you on a private message asking for the Service Tag number to ascertain the warranty but did not receive a response. Please feel free to reply to the private message whenever you are available.

Hi
thanks for this.
The f12 diagnostics suggest all is good, with return values of 2000/0000 and val code of 68442. Beeps were heard! This was still true on advanced test just for pci and audio, in 'thorough' mode. However support assist still shows the problem as per the original message, and there are no in or out devices present or discoverable for sound.
Worth mentioning that the machine is on win 11, with updated bios v 1.15.1. Also I uninstalled device for the realtek driver, so that it no longer shows on the hidden sounds etc section of device manager. But this has not altered the symptoms in any way.
Confused at this discrepancy between the 2 diagnostics, perhaps as raw beeps worked, the problem is not a total hardware fail in this area.
thanks
Tony

tonyd,
As per the troubleshooting performed so far, we concluded that that issue is with software and request you to reinstall the operating system.
Please back up all important data on your system. Here is a link on how you can do that: https://dell.to/3Ad3KHh
If you are not comfortable backing up data on your own, you could contact a local technician for assistance.
Next, we will have to create the media creation tool on a 16GB or 8GB empty flash drive. Please check this link to download the tool on to your USB: https://dell.to/3Nxfzep
Once done, let’s ensure that the Boot settings and SATA operations are correctly configured for this process.
You may check the following link to help you with it: https://dell.to/3bENpRb;
Now that we have the necessary settings and OS Media, please follow the instructions from this link to install the OS using the recovery media https://dell.to/3nsOqP9
