Plugged in but not charging, AC Adapter = Unknown
Hello,
I have a Dell Precision 5530, recently the battery was having an issue and not charging, I bought a new Dell battery and replaced it, yet it still won't charge.
In the BIOS, the battery is healthy but the AC Adapter is unknown, I have tried different AC adapters and all of them are still Unknown.
These are the steps that I did to try to fix it:
1. - Device Manager
- uninstalled "Microsoft Surface ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery"
- Scan for new hardware
2. - Device Manager
- uninstalled "Microsoft Surface ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery"
- Take out the battery
- Hit the power button for 10 seconds
- Put the battery back
- Turn on the laptop
3. Update the BIOS to the latest version
4. Drain the battery
Please let me know if there is anymore troubleshooting I can do or someone who has similar issue.
Thank you!

Assuming that your adapter and the ones you tried are all genuine Dell OEM adapters, then basically there are usually 2 other causes. Either the DC jack needs to be replaced, or the charging circuit on the MB is having problems which may mean a MB replacement. Make sure you are using known good genuine Dell adapters while trying to diagnose the problem.
And to reset the system disconnect the battery and adapter. Then press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Then reconnect everything and try again.
