Potential issue with Precision 7680 BIOS update and Windows June 2026 patch causing severe latency issues
The recently rolled out Windows Security update of June 2026, KB5094126, incorporated the Low Latency Profile feature which is designed to momentarily boost CPU clock speeds to improve system responses to things like start menu presses and application startups. However, on installing this update my computer immediately started to severely lag, taking minutes to open up task manager or do anything. What was immediately apparent was the 12 efficiency (non-hyperthreading) cores were continually maxed out at 100% usage.
Only the removal of the patch and recovery of the windows OS through DSIM returned the system to normal. The patch was then reinstalled and the same issues returned, confirming it was this update patch. The issue does appear to be the thread handling and perhaps a conflict between these handling processes which appears to be introduced with the update.
The current thinking is the Low Latency Profile feature.
Have there been any other users reporting similar issues?
One potential correlation we have noticed with multiple machines of the same spec, is the problem machines seem to be limited to the Dell Precision 7680 BIOS version 1.28.2, whereas machines which are running the earlier 1.27.1 seem to be fine after the patch update. Currently this is the only identified difference between machines.

Our repair shop has 4 Dells with the KB5094126 issue. No other brands have come in with this particular issue but Dell. Hangs up, no screen or does Windows repair and hangs. Dell XPS 8900 series tower, Inspiron 3847 Tower, Inspiron 15 laptop and a Dell All in One. Removing The KB094126 can cause other problems, but ultimately reloads itself in a few days. All have updated bios from Dell and Microsoft updates.

Disabling the secure boot update task does the trick on the XPS 8700 and the XPS 8910.

It would appear the order of installation matters, as I have replicated the issue on the same laptop model, by having the BIOS update 1.28.2 installed first, and then the Windows Update patch KB5094126.
I have found a recovery pattern following the patch installation (to be clear, no uninstalling of KB5094126, just post install) has recovered the machines:
Open a terminal window as admin (cmd or powershell), and do the following:
PLEASE BE AWARE, THE
DISMCOMMAND CAN TAKE UP TO 4-5 HOURS TO COMPLETE, AND LOOKS LIKE IT GETS STUCK AT NUMEROUS POINTS, BUT IT DOES EVENTUALLY COMPLETE.
