Precision 5550 and Dockingstation TB16

Hi, everyone.

At our company there are 5 brand new Precision 5550 laptops. We have 3 office sites. On 1 site only the new WD19TB dockings. On the other 2 sides only TB16 dockings.

Is the Precision 5550 with the TB16 dockings compatible or NOT? I'm having trouble all the time with the combination P5550/TB16's. Connections are unstable. Dell support in the Netherlands can't give clear info about it.

Yes, laptops and dockings are up-to-date with firmware. The WD19TB dockings are working fine. All the TB16's are working fine with our P5520's, P5530's and P5540's.

So can anyone share some info about the combi P5550 and TB16.

Kind regards.

@Dhr.Systeembeheerder  I don't think Dell ever officially certified the Precision 5550 with the TB16 because the WD19TB replaced the TB16 and the WD19TB already existed by the time the Precision 5550 was released.  It should be compatible, but for what it's worth, the TB16 generated far more than its fair share of complaints while it was Dell's current TB3 dock, revolving around connection stability, behavior when the system wakes up from sleep, overall functionality, etc.  And ironically the TB16 was a replacement to an even earlier model called the TB15, which was so bad that Dell ended up having to recall all of them and replace them with TB16s, which turned out not to be great either.  So what you're seeing might not necessarily be "TB16 with Precision 5550 problems" but rather just "TB16 problems".  The WD19TB isn't generating nearly as many complaints as the TB16 did.
