Precision 5570, issue running AutoCAD
Hey,
Recently at my IT position we upgraded our engineers to the Precision 5570's since they came with a higher end GPU which they need for AutoCAD. They've all recently ran into issues with their external monitors with them randomly turning off and AutoCAD freezing up when the monitors come back on. They all use the same setup and it's listed below
Precision 5570:
GPU: Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics + Nvidia RTX A1000 Laptop GPU
CPU: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12800H
MEM: 32GB DDR4
Dock: WD22TB4
Monitors: Dell UltraSharp 24" (x2)
These specs should be way more than enough to run AutoCAD yet it seems as if the computer is really struggling. I've researched this issue fairly intensely and as I understand it the Nvidia GPU is bottlenecked through the integrated graphics card which is why there's so many issues. We have already set the Windows Graphic settings to have AutoCAD run off the A1000 along with changing everything to use the A1000 inside of Nvidia's Control Panel. Those changes however didn't change much since video output through the ports is controlled solely by the integrated GPU. This means we are also unable to disable the integrated GPU to force AutoCAD to run on the A1000. Even the BIOS setting "discrete graphics controller direct output mode" is unavailable on this model. Are there any other things I can try to fix this issue while still allowing AutoCAD to run on the external monitors? NOTE: All drivers are up to date.

The question is, do the systems perform acceptably with the external displays detached? This is a mid-range system that is quite capable of running AutoCAD, as you note -- but that's with only the internal display running. It's quite another issue to run it and pump out video two two, presumably 4K monitors attached. That changes the workload appreciably to one requiring a very high end system with a much more capable GPU (which in turn, you'll find either with a fixed rather than mobile workstation at a price comparable to what you paid for the mid-range 5000 series, or to a higher end 7000 series system).
