Precision 7720 won’t power on

Hi. I have a Precision 7720 and it refuses to turn on when I shutdown or put it to sleep for some hours. When I try to turn it on, the power led and keyboard backlight turns on but goes off after about 2-5 seconds. I have tried hard reset, checked the hard drive, ram and cmos battery but it still won’t come on. But when I leave it for some hours and come to turn it on, it does. I’ve run diagnostics and no problems have been found and it works just fine. This has been going on for days now and I haven’t been able to find a solution. I’ll really appreciate any ideas on how to solve this problem.

I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check for issue resolution.

  1. Switch off the computer.
  2. Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
  3. Remove the battery from the computer.
  4. Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
  5. Then connect back all the peripherals and check if you are able to switch ON the system.

If the light indicator on the AC adapter goes OFF when connected to the system then there seems to be short on the motherboard. You would need to replace the system board on the laptop.

Hello!

I dont know if this is still relevant or maybe it will help someone in the future.

I recently had similar problem with my precision 7720. Do you have any problems with left I/O port ? (type-c/thunderbolt, HDMI, mini-DP, USB).

I removed left I/O board and computer turn on every time. Try to remove it
