Precision 7770 looking for 1080 resolution

I like to use 1920x1080 because not all programs scale correctly with Windows. When my notebook is on the docking station, the notebook display and both external monitors work just fine with 1920x1080 filling the display.

However, when the notebook is not on the docking station, if I set the resolution (using Windows display settings) to 1920x1080 the display is tiny and centered. The UI only fills the screen when I select 3840x2160.

Co-worker (Precision 7780) sets the display resolution from the nVidia control panel and 1920x1080 scales to fill the screen. My nVidia control panel doesn't have the display settings option, and though there are dozens of techniques and hundreds of videos that claim to address the lack, none seem to make any difference. If it makes a difference, my nVidia control panel shows "Windows OS now manages selection of the graphics processor," while his doesn't. Display settings -> Advanced shows that Windows has selected the Intel graphics. (His shows nVidia.)

Is there some magic to force use of the nVidia GPU, or am I chasing the wrong path? Is there a way for me to coerce the notebook display to scale 1920x1080 up to full screen? Since it's working that way on the docking station, it would seem to be possible.

(Apologies for omitting information: ) Using Win 11 now but was trying to solve this for months with Win 10, so it isn't a new issue with switching to 11.

nVidia GPU driver was latest Dell version from command update. I've switched to the driver downloaded from nVidia (32.0.15.8180). No change between versions.

Most UHD panels can support lower resolutions when needed. NVIDIA drivers do not change much but problems with the value added components are more complicated.
