Hi everyone. My scenario. M4700 with primary internal 256gb ssd. By that I mean motherboard attachment & not installed into the caddy. System failing to power on, blank screen, no associated power up sounds, so pretty dead. Windows 10 OS My questions are -
1. Does the ssd simply plug into an interface on the motherboard?
The SSD is connected by a SATA and power connection when you insert the SSD/HDD. With an SSD they are slightly thinner and generally need a spacer to properly plug into the connections when inserted.
2. Can I unplug the ssd & install it into some kind of external caddy & then attach it to another Windows type machine via USB to access my data?
Absolutely you can.
This type of drive enclosure at the Amazon page should work fine with a 2.5" SSD or HDD.
3. What method, caddy, cable combinations would you suggest. I thank you in advance Regards
My answer and example as listed above has that information.
Is there any other drive storage option for the M4700 other than a conventional drive or the ssd drive type?
Reason I ask is that someone is telling me there is a 'flash drive' that is fixed directly into the motherboard. Not into an interface slot but directly into the MB. News to me but I'm always ready to stand corrected.
If there is a link (I have looked) showing a exploded view to confirm or deny the existence of a 'flash drive's i would appreciate a link.
Yes, you can add an mSATA solid state drive to a mini PCIe slot with marking WWAN/mSATA. Below is a picture of an installed drive in a similar system for your reference.
