If the disc is already in GPT format, you should not need to convert it -- only if it's in MBR mode would you need to do that to install in GPT mode. If the system is running in legacy mode already, the drive won't be in GPT format and won't support UEFI boot.
You'll need to fill in more detail about the existing OS and how it's installed, and on what OS you're trying to install.
