1600n vertical line when scanning

My 1600n all-in-one has started to show a vertical line on every scanned page about 2/3 of the way across the page from the left and extending the entire length of the page. The line can be erased using the eraser tool but this is cumbersome and doesn't help when the line goes through text. Nothing similar happens when printing a page. There is no reference to this problem in any of the manuals or user guide. Anyone have an idea of what might be causing the problem and its solution?

I am having the exact same problem.  Manual tells you to clean ADF glass and scanner glass with a slightly dampened cloth, but this has not helped.

It only happens when scanning/faxing using the ADF.  When I placed my document face down on the glass and scanned it, there were no lines.

Please help.  I will have to purchase a new scanner if I can't get this to stop, as I cannot afford to have these lines print out on my business faxes.
