1700n print quality issues/and help needed!

1) You use a browser to access the 1700n to change settings.  I've made all kinds of changes to this printer and have tested these changes by printing a graphic image.  However,  laying the printouts side by side I see very little difference if any at all.

Any ideas?  Don't believe there is any later driver to use.  Images are fuzzy at best.

2) I've noticed several times that the printer drum to be making random sounds.  I'll be working or near by (not using the printer) and suddenly hear a strange sound like the drum or motor sound.   Very brief.  It's plugged into a router that is setup with internet access.

3) Another strange sound that I've heard is when you print.  Typically this sound occurs if the printer is in energy save mode.  I hear a clicking sounds.  It doesn't always happen and it occurs quickly enought that I cannot determine if it's coming from the printer or router.  This only occurs when using the printer.

4) Where do you find details on what all the printer options do.  I'm referring to when you access the printer via web browser and find all the possible changes and adjustments you can make.  Nothing in the manual and I can find nothing online at Dell.

Could really use some help.

Thank you in advance!

P.S.  The tech support is very poor.  I finally got through.  I've been told about their Dell award winning service.  First,  if you ever are able to get through...good luck.  It's impossible to get through on Tech support via chat on the web.  When you have to hold forever and are then told to look in the manual. I mean...come on.  The manual has 15 different languages and then tells you how to plug the printer in and that's about it.

Oh great, I'm thinking of getting this printer too. I have an older HP LaserJet 5 now and really like it, but it's getting worn out so want to replace it.  Maybe you just got a lemon, you can send it back and ask for a new one if you just got it, that's what I did with the one I ordered and didn't like it, they seem to be good about that.  I know what you mean I was on hold for 30min yest, and then got disconnected.

Yep... I had the HP 1200.  Super print quality.  Sold it off after this arrived.  Image quality is truly poor.  Text is typically good but when I compared invoices printed from both printers the HP clearly looked better.  Especially since I import an image file of my logo.  The 1700n does not compare.  Tech support seems to be reading off of a screen and having to follow a protocol.  Seem to lack ability to do actual troubleshooting.  So,  they're over nighting me a new toner cartridge to fix the problem (ahh...don't think that will help any).  She had no idea how to answer the other questions listed above.  She said she was sorry.

Not as sorry as I am.  I've been pointing my clients toward Dell.  Yikes!

I will say that this printer is fast and I didn't find it hard to network.  Nice to plug the Cat5 cable right into the printer and router.

These people amaze me!   They clearly identied my printer and stated they wanted me to try a new toner to fix the problem.  The sent a toner for another printer.  Nice!!
