I have a 1710 installed on a Windows XP machine. I share all of my printers using the Windows Network, and have never had a problem. When I use Microsoft Windows Network and try to install the shared 1710 printer on XP machines I don't have a problem. However, when I go to install the printer on an Windows 2000 Pro machine I get exactly the same error. There appears to be some problem in crossing operating systems with this printer. I downloaded the latest driver hoping that would make the problem go away; no luck. Tech support had no solution.
He is right, uninstalling the "Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4" - installing the 1710 printer driver worked. No matter what else I tried I still received:
DKAAY2PI.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program.
Only on W2K systems when networking the 1710.
Now the problem is when I reinstall the "Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4" it still errors out.
Any help??

hello, an other solution without deinstalling the roll-up is: deinstall all dell-printer software. deinstall the dell-printer. install Windows2000-KB908506. now you can install your dell-printer without any deinstallation of rollup's. ok.ok
