1710+3300 wireless adapter vs 1710N+3300wireless adapter

Hi,

I have a laptop and desktop that are both wireless enabled. I am looking for a mono laser printer that I can use to print wirelessly from my laptop without having to turn my desktop on (which is what I need to do at the moment). Can I do this with a 1710 and a 3300 wireless adapter or do I need to buy a 1710N with the  wireless adapter? If I can use a 1710 then what is the attraction of the 1710N?
