2150cn memory question; and memory needs in general
I just got my new2150cdn printer and was thinking about upgrading the memory. The manual says it is DDR2 memory (SODIMM), but the speed is rated at EP2-2100. Is this something special? I have never heard of the EP2 designation. The normal memory companies (Crucial, Kingston, etc) do not yet have this printer listed so it seems Dell is the only place to buy this memory. The Dell p/n is 317-5645...and they want $120 for about $20 worth of memory....I don't think so!
If this is something special, then I am not happy with Dell. My previous 3100cn printer used normal SDRAM memory. Can I use normal DDR2-2100 memory in this printer?
My other, more generic question is this: Under what conditions would I need more than the default amount of memory (256MB.) If the only need for more memory is to quickly transfer the data from the computer to the printer then I don't care since I can wait. If it would fail to print complex items without more memory, then I do care.
Thanks

I am not sure how that helps or how that answers my question. I saw that page already and that is how I knew that Dell was charging an arm and a leg for a small amount of memory. The reason they provide for needing more memory is: "A memory module can be one of the most critical components in your printer allowing you to achieve excellent quality prints at high speeds and in a very short time." is very vague. Why would memory affect quality? ...or are they just saying that the printer will provide higher speeds because the extra memory can more quickly free the computer up to do other things.

jvall,
Since there is hardly anyone that knows about the Dell lasers here, you could try contacting Dell Parts-People.com, INC - Parts and Service for Dell Laptop Notebooks - Home Maybe they know what RAM is needed. Also try Crucial
I really do not know how much memory the printer will handle.
