3110cn conflicts with USB drive

A co-worker of mine just got a new 3110cn, got everything going, and was printing fine. Then they discovered today that their USB thumb/pen drive is no longer recognized on the computer (on any USB port, front and back). The thumb drive is fine (verified on 2nd comp), and is not remapped (checked disk mgt.). After switching over to parallel mode all is fine, but I can not think of a reason why the USB drivers would conflict with a thumb drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Printer works fine on USB, with or without thumb drive. After inserting the thumb drive (with printer connected via USB), unknown device msg comes up, and light goes off on thumb drive.

Are you getting any error message when connecting the USB drive? If you try to connect your printer USB cable, the printer is working fine right? But when you try to connect the USB drive it doesn't work. Am I correct, I just wanna make sure that I fully understand your problem so I could help you.

Can you install your USB drive driver if it has any before connecting the USB device on your pc.

XP requires (has) no drivers for USB storage devices, btw I tried two different makes SanDisk and Kingston.
