5100n color laserprinter - imaging drum ID error

Question

Does this mean that the imaging drum needs to be replaced? How often should this need replacing? Our printing has printed 21,666 pages.   Thanks.

The drum is rated for up to 35,000 pages.  A very general rule of thumb is that the drum should last through about 10 toner cartridges.  It could be full if a large proportion of your printing has been close to full page coverage.  But if you print mostly text, you may have a defective drum.  In that case, Dell will replace it.
