Since you have replaced the ink cart and the printer and still have the same problem then it is almost 100% chance that they were not the problem. That leaves the program which you are printing the photo with. Somewhere in that program you may have something selected that you don't need. What happens when you have a photo from a page on line and you just hit print?
What photo programs are you using that does this?

I've tried quite a few software programmes - ZoomBroswer/Photo Record (Cannon proprietory software which came with my camera), Photo Impression 5, Paint Shop Photo Album.

The weird thing is it just started half way through a print run of photos.

Have just tried printing a photo off the internet (but using the same printer settings as usual) and its printed fine!

Any ideas what could be up?  Thanks for your help.
