926 printer only prints once until a reboot
I "helped" out a friend the other month by doing some basic maintenance on their Vista machine including uninstalling some toolbar applications, uninstalling old antivirus programs, instaling Microsoft Security Essentials and running Windows Update.
Since then they have been having a problem with their Dell 926 printer -- it will print once (or we found out continuously until you give it a break). After then it will give an error and print only after restarting the computer. I removed the drivers, ran the patch I've found on the forum, deleted the drivers folder, downloaded the latest drivers and installed them and then connected the printer again. Unfortunately the same issue occurs. I tried this several times to no avail.
I increased the priority on the printer from 1 to 99, same issue.
I turned off bi-directional printing, but then I couldn't print -- the item seemed to go through the queue but the printer didn't seem to notice it.
Tried different USB ports, same issue.
I forget the error message off-hand it was just a generic Windows error message.
Anything I may be missing????
Thanks!

vconfused,
First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs from the queue.
Disconnect the printer.
Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.
Restart your computer.
Download the proper Vista drivers. Install the drivers, you'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on)
