926 printer
I want to set up my printer with my laptop. Instructions show capability of both a wireless connection and a USB 2 cable. There is a white plastic square in the slot in the printer where one would insert the small end of the USB cable. Though the techsupport geek wasn't sure he told me to forceably remove the piece using needlenose plyers. It does not appear to be something that should be removed and would take major force to do so. Prior to calling I searched all I could search on line and could find no reference. I wrote to Dell the first of this week, had an auto reply on 3/11 and since then nothing. I am also interested in the wireless set and do not know what to purchase for the printer to facilitate it.... laptop is wireless. However, I won't be able to do either USB or wireless until the white square is explained. Can anyone assist?

To get your printer to print wirelessly, what you need to do is purchase a Dell wireless printer adapter 3300 or a wireless router that has some type of a print server. Then you insert the disk and connect the wireless print server to your computer. Follow the instructions.
Then get out your printer drivers disk and insert it into each computer that's on your network. Choose network, choose print server and follow the instructions. You now are able to print, scan and copy wirelessly.
Any questions, feel free to ask. I have a Dell Photo AIO Photo printer 964 hooked up to a Dell wireless printer adapter 3300 and have my security like I have posted below. Have no problems at all, except during electrical storms. Sometimes I just have to turn everything off for 15 seconds and then turn them all back on again.

Thank you for the quick reply. The tech support guy told me to try to remove the white thing (which of course is impossible....as I found out) and they are sending me a new printer. I wish I had waited for your reply. However, I have a question. If the white thing belongs there where do I insert the small end of the USB cord?
I am going to check on the wireless....hopefully they will send me a printer that will accept the wireless cord.

To the left of the power cord port, my 926 does not have a FAX port. It only has the UBS port with the UBS symbol, as shown in your photo. The UBS port looks the same as shown in your photo EXCEPT for a 1/4 inch rectangular white plastic object. There is no room in the port for the UBS 2 cord to attach as the white square takes up most of the room. They are sending me a new printer as, against my better judgement, I attempted to remove the square as they instructed. As the plastic chipped away, I could see two slots in the top and two slots in the bottom of the square, each with a metal connector of sometype at the base of the slot. It obviously is a connector for some type of UBS cord. The upper line of the three lines in the UBS symbol, extending to the right has a + (plus symbol) at the end..... does that indicate anything important? The tech rep for Dell told me to use a USB 2 connector, which I tried to do, but with the white square in the slot, the USB 2 cord would not insert. I'll let you know if I ever find out what it is. Thank you for your help.
