Bongers,

The procedure is to disconnect the printer, run the patch to completely remove the printer and restart the computer when prompted. Make sure the printer is gone. Manual Printer Driver Removal

The install the Vista 64-bit drivers in the compatibility mode. You can find the instructions and the download for the Vista 64-bit drivers at...

926 Photo All-In-One Printer owners thread (W7)

Let me know what happens. If the printer does not install, the make and model of your computer and operating system will be helpful.(I know it's Windows 7 but I may forget)

Hi,

Yes I did as told in the manual removal topic. Printer and drivers were gone. I also tried compatibility mode (Vista, Vista sp2, XP sp3) but that didn't solve it. I don't have a brand pc, I assembled it with various parts.

Bongers,

Do you have...

AMD USB Audio Driver Filter or  NVIDIA's Network Access Manager, if so uninstall them.

Firewalls and virus programs also hinder installation of the printers. Did you try different USB Ports?

Hi,

No I don't have either of those programs installed. I also disabled Windows Firewall and Windows Defender, I don't have any other firewalls or virus scanners installed. I also tried other USB ports (on the front panel and on the back on my computer)

Strange problem huh? Thanks for helping me.

Thanks for replying so fast.

Yes I did all of that, as stated in my previous and in my first post.

What compatibility mode is recommended? I tried XP sp3, Vista, Vista sp2 but then I can focus on one particular.

Do you have any other tips?

Bongers,

I'm thinking you're using some type of desktop, since it's a home made system. I'm also thinking that there might be an issue with your USB Port to communicate with the printer. A 6ft or smaller USB Cable is helpful because USB Ports do not carry much current.

Recap is that you disconnected the printer, uninstalled and then restarted your computer after you uninstalled the printer. Then installed the drivers first. You should have at least seen, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time. If you did not see this, then there could be a problem with Windows installer.

If the computer was on for some time, you might want to try...

Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)

Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.

Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Restart your computer.

Yes I'm using a desktop. The USB cable is about 1.5 m which is 5 ft? That shouldn't be a problem? I don't have another USB cable to try. I don't print alot but a few months ago when I still had Vista 32 bit the printer worked fine. Then I installed W7 x64 with a clean install, and I didn't intend to use the printer until now.

Also happens after just restarting and I tried unchecking that power management box but that didn't help.

I also disconnected the printer, removed drivers completely, restarted computer, started installation, connected printer when the installation asked for it. The installation looks fine until the very last second then it displays an error "driver has not been installed" ...

I noticed the name of the Rxxxxxx.exe driver file from Windows 7 is the same one as Windows Vista, same name and same date (2007?). Is ths Windows 7 driver actually the Vista driver? Because Windows 7 is just a few months released, definately not 2 years. :emotion-5: Could this be the problem? Why does Dell put the Vista driver on the website and call it a Windows 7 driver?

Bongers,

The Windows 7 drivers, if you look closely, can be Vista drivers or even the same as XP. I'm almost out of ideas, but I do know the printer does work with Windows 7. This is why I tell people to install the Vista drivers in the compatibility mode.

Try downloading EVEREST Home Edition click on computer, summary and look at your chipset drivers. Letf click on it, then click on driver download. Update the chipset drivers and see if that helps.

The printer needs to be removed, all traces of it. Then the computer needs to be restarted. The the drivers need to be installed in the compatibility mode. If that doesn't work, what happens when you plug the printer in, does Windows 7 try to ask you to go online for the drivers?
