942 All In One Never Has Worked!

Hi,

I have had this printer for a couple of months, and it has never worked correctly since day one. I can print to it fine, but I cannot use the scanner. The All-In-One center program will not start. Instead the following error message is displayed:

''Runtime Error: Abnormal Program Termination
C:\Program Files\ Del Photo AIO Printer942\dlbuaiox.exe.''

Also, when the printer software was being installed, the following similar message appeared near the end of the installation process:

''Runtime Error: Abnormal Program Termination
C:\Program Files\Del Photo AIO Printer942\Drivers\W32x86\3\DLBUPSWX.exe.''
I have reinstalled the software, reloaded the OS, and nothing works. The shame is that this all came from Dell this way... because I bought a new XPS system with the printer. I have tried the chat support, but they are clueless, saying it is a software problem and asked me to call them, but of course they want me to purchase a support contract. I should not have to pay for something that has never worked at all!

OK, aside from my frustration, is there anyone else who has had this problem and found a solution?

thx

Hello,

I don't have experience with your particular issue, but here are my personal steps to trouble-free hardware installation:

  • Set a Windows Restore Point
  • Uninstall the current printer and any associated software from Control Panel
  • Scan the registry for any lingering traces (I use RegistryFix, but you can use any quality registry tool if you have one)
  • Clean-boot the machine (Start, Run, msconfig, deselect "Load startup programs")
  • Install the new printer driver (may wish to download the latest)

Hope this helps!

Yes, I feel your pain. See my posting under "AIO Printer 964 - Installation disaster"

My symptoms are slightly different and I have yet no solution. Reading the posts

in this forum it seems like the AIO printers never works.

I'm running Windows XP Pro, and my Dell AIO 942 installed beautifully, without a hitch. I am completely satisfied with its performance, despite a minor annoyance in that it insists to scanning to Outlook instead of Outlook Express, and there appears to be no way to change that. No biggie, I can work around that by just scanning to my hard drive, then opening an Outlook Express message to send the file. Other than that, I have no complaints with the printer or the installation process. Best printer I've ever owned.

Feel free to read my product review at http://reviews-zdnet.com.com/Dell_942_Photo_All_in_One_1_year_warranty/4864-3181_16-31139138.html?ctype=msgid&messageSiteID=16&messageID=1547686&cval=1547686&tag=uolst

Cheers,
