948 wireless printer-Can't print wireless when printer is attached to second computer

Hi,

Just got an all-in-one Dell 948 printer.  I set it so it's wired to a Dell computer.  I also set it to print wireless from my laptop.  It prints fine from the wired computer and works well when printing from the laptop.  The only problem is I have to disconnect the usb cable from the one computer to print wireless.  When the printer USB cable is wired, I can't print through the wireless.  When I unplug it, the wireless works.  How can I configure it to print wireless when still wired to the main computer.  Thanks

Just guessing what your setup is. You say you have a laptop. Do you have a wireless router. If so, then you can leave the printer connected to the desktop. Right click on the printer and choose allow sharing.

Now on the laptop

Go to Control Panel. Choose printer. Then choose Add Printer.

Choose Add a network printer.

If that does not work then try this.

Go to Control Panel. Choose printer. Then choose Add Printer.

Choose Add a local printer. Click on Create a new port. The default in the drop down box is Local Port. Do not change that. Click Next.

A dialogue box will appear asking for you to enter a port name.

Type in the \\computername\printername

Rick,

Thanks for the info.  I'll give them a try.
