Mike the 962 AIO works very well in Vista, Your problem is the same one the rest of us DELL printer owners faced. Vista doesn't like XP Drivers.Even if you bought a new computer with Vista preinstalled it was probably an upgrade. GiniaQ and Eric rendil discovered this a few weeks back.
Here is the fix that will get your printer working in vista.

1.  From device manager uninstall and delete the driver.

2. Uninstall the 962 software from the program group.

3.  Disconnect printer

4.  Reboot.

5.  Browse to C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Drivers\w32x86 and delete everything contained in this folder.

6.  Start the installation of the Vista drivers from latest Dell download and reconnect when directed.

You then have a printer.

Good luck

Vista drivers will not over write XP drivers located in the w32x86 sub-folder. That is why you must delete the contents before installing the current Vista drivers.

Thanks very much for giving me a hand, I appreciate your time. I have hooked up the 962 to my other Dell with Windows XP.  When I try to print to that system from my Dell with Vista, it does not work.  This may get confusing but I will try.

My Dell with Vista, I went into the Device Mgr but there is no pronter listed as there is no printer connected to the Dell with Vista.  The printer is on the other Dell with XP and it works fine.  When I try to print from the Vista Dell to the XP Dell, I have a communication error.

Since there is no printer hooked up to my Dell with Vista, do I still need to find the printer drivers, whereever they are, and delete them?  Do I leave everything alone on my Dell with XP which is where the 962 is connected as that system works great.

I did download the new driver on my Vista machine so it has to be there somewhere.  I apologize for making this confusing but it is really a pain not being able to print from my Vista Dell to my XP Dell. I have ensured the Windows firewall is down and a load of other remedies.

If you can talk (write) me thru this, it would be a great help.  Thanks again and hopefully you are not scratching your head at my attempt to explain this.

Mike:
Here is a quick walk through.
1. Open control panel and go to un-install programs.
2. Delete The 962 software and driver.
3.Next move your 962 AIO to your new computer and power it up. Do not hook it to your computer.
4.  Browse to C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Drivers\w32x86 and delete everything contained in this folder.
5. Reboot your computer.
6. Down load 962 AIO Vista Driver from Dell.(make sure you choose the Vista 32 bit driver for the list the xp driver in the same os drop down menu). You  can down load the  962 AIO Filmware at this time.
7.Install the 962 AIO driver and follow the instructions as to when to attach your AIO to your computer.
8. Update your 962 AIO filmware.

When you are finished you can print from your New Vista computer.
You Leave your XP computers as they are.

I tried your suggestions and experienced a problem. One of the folders contained in C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Drivers\w32x86 would not allow me to delete, said I did not have permission to access these files. I am the sole user/ administrator of this laptop. Frustrated, since upgrading to Vista I am unable to use my 962 AIO or the 3300 print server. Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Steelehorseman; There is some confusion on what to delete and what is safe to delete.
1. You should only delete contents of the subfolder \w32x86 this is where the printer drivers are located.
2.Before you delete the driver you should delete the AIO driver and software through the control panel process. (if useing the 3300 wireless you should remove this also)
The reason you are denied permission to delete the contents of w32x86 folder, either the printer or the AIO software is still on your computer and useing that driver.
3. After you have removed the AIO printer and software then delete the contents of the w32x86 folder.
4 Reboot and with the 3300 disabled and your printer powered up and disconnected then install the Vista driver you downloaded from DELL.
After you have installed the printer and printed a test page then you can set up your wireless print server.
Good luck

Hello everyone

I'm having the same problems that everyone has with the Vista driver and the All in One 962 Printer. I tried everything posted in this forum and I managed to make the printer "print" but everybody seems not to have realise that the scanner is not working even if the driver is installed correctly. In fact it is impossible to install the R98804 update who contain the software to make everything work properly. Remember the old AIO software who gave you access to all features of the printer?

Instead of the Dell R98804 witch I'm not able to install, Windows Vista Installed is own version of Dell throught the security updates. But still does'nt work.

Like I said, every steps posted in this forum, I've tried.

I'm running on Vista 64

Please Help   :smileymad:

I gave up with Dell and their promise for a Vista fix for the 3300 print server.

Lexmark has a great line of all in one with wireless adapter built in, that works with Vista flawlessly. I bought the Lexmark 9300 AIO.  Works perfectly.

As we all know the Dell printers are actually Lexmarks.  So why does Lexmark have a solution to the Vista wireless problem and Dell doesn't.

Ironically Dell is still currently selling the 3300 print adapter.  http://www.dell.com/content/products/compare.aspx/allinone?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

I Called Dell Support, Don't expect any help from them. They will found any reasons why their products do not work, but they will never tried to solve the the problem in the first place. They said it was a Vista problem and I had to contact Microsoft, so I did. I spend hours with Microsoft to try to find the problem, Microsoft did extensive testing on the computer to find out that update drivers for Vista from Dell is defective and not running properly.

But still, Dell will not accept their responsibilities regarding their own updates. When you buy something that is Vista compatible you expect it will FULLY WORK! without doing phone calls all over the country, an update is supposed to be user friendly and strait forward to do! I a way I'm not sure Dell tech's representative are competent for doing theirs jobs! If the Vista driver for the 962 AIO printer is a pain in the a... for everybody, it seems to me it should be time for Dell to make a new version of the updates. If this case is not corrected soon enough you can be sure I will NEVER EVER buy a Dell brand Anymore. :smileymad:
