Dynapro,
If you have your old black ink cart put it back in and see if the right cart incorrect message goes away. If it stays then it is probably a bad color ink cart. If color ink cart is less than 5 months old Dell will probably replace it.
If the message goes away then it is possibly a bad new black ink cart which they should replace. Or it is possibly a strange interaction between the 2 ink carts caused by faulty printer or printer software.
If any of your ink carts were purchased anywhere besides new from Dell then that is almost certainly the problem.
I did try putting the old black cart. in, but the "right cartridge incorrect" error stayed on. ... NOT GOOD.
The printer is less than 1 year old. Not used much, this is the first time for a cartridge replacement. The COLOR was 85% full, but once I replaced the left, black cart, the RIGHT error light came on.
You cannot imagine how mad I am at DELL about this.
It is a scam, to buy a new, un-needed color cartridge... I have now ordered one from Dell, expedited overnight delivery, but my printer is totally down and THIS IS TAX WEEKEND. I am trying to find a place to print my stuff out.
I have a AIO 922 and I'm having problems with it. It's been this way for over a year now and I can't get it to work. I was out of black ink so I added the new black ink cartridge (from Dell). I keep getting the error message "Left Cartridge Incorrect". I don't have my old black ink cartridge anymore since I've moved in the last year. What options do I have? Is it worth it to buy a new black ink cartridge? What if that isn't the problem? It sounds like I'm not the only one with this problem, is Dell doing anything about it?
I'm just trying to find out if your issues have been resolved. I am having a similar problem now. Sounds like I'm having similar symptoms... Right (color) cartridge only, cartridge is at least halfway full, and my warranty is expired so no help from dell. I tried to resolve the issue by cleaning automatically with the maintenance and troubleshooting software, and then manually by (dampening a clean, lint-free cloth with water. Holding the cloth against the nozzles for three seconds, and then wipe in the direction shown. Using another clean section of the cloth, gently holding the cloth against the contacts for three seconds, and then wiping in the proper direction shown per Dells instructional illustrations. I allowed the nozzles and contacts to dry completely and reinserted the ink cartridges).
I know that the cartridge has ink in it because before everything went wrong, I was in the middle of printing and the cartridge indicator was showing that it was more than halfway full. I know that the cartridge is correct because it's 1) a Dell color cartridge, and 2) I've been using this exact cartridge for quite some time now. I performed both the automatic and manual cleaning method several times each for both the black and color cartridges (even though I currently am having no problems with the black cartridge). Also, even though the black cartridge is reading that it has ink, I can't print anything at all! A friend of mine has the exact same printer and got his about the same time as I did and he experienced the same problems a few weeks before I did.
Sorry for the long post but I just want to vent my frustration and more importantly, I want to see if anyone has figured anything out or resolved this issue short of buying a new color cartridge! I like the printer, but I really don't want to have replace cartridges when they are only halway full! Please let me know if anyone out there has figured anything out!
When you don't use your ink carts for a while, when you get new ink carts that have been stored in warehouses for a number of months, or when you have refilled a slightly too dry ink cart, the print head nozzles on the bottom of the ink carts get clogged with dried ink. This can make the printer print in only 1 or 2 colors. The printer head cleaner menu will NOT dissolve the dried ink. Water will. Try this. Soak the bottom of the clogged ink cart in 1/2 inch of hot water for 15-30 minutes. Blot dry with clean paper towel (you should see the ink colors on the towel). Retry.
Also while the ink carts are out, wipe the electrical contact on the back of the ink carts and the matching contacts in the ink cart carrier. Dirty contacts will cause the ink carts to work eraticly.
There is NO ALTERNATIVE.... Dell has set up the printer default that you MUST buy both cartridges when one of the other goes out.
Hummmm..... nice of them. Take it out on Dell. Do not buy their products, or better yet, sabotoge one of their products if you can - in a retail store.
Well I wouldn't go that far. My personal integrity is worth more than all the Dell stock in the world.
I did finally contact an "out of warrantee" representative, who did honor the fact that I replaced the color cartridge only a few months ago, when the similar problem occurred.
I would like to contact Dell and suggest they change their product to be "user efficient".
Seems like the purchase of the printer is only a down payment on all the supplies you will have to buy over the life of the unit. Although they're losing money on the shipping of replacement cartridges all over the place and the outsourced tech support.
Anyway, thanks for your reply, and maybe HP has a good thing going.
I tried to be a good girl and buy my cartridges from Dell but they refused to accept my credit card without a copy of my passport. I took exception to this (being a good Dell customer, I didn't like them questioning my honesty) and took my custom elsewhere. I bought new Dell cartridges from another supplier. Now I've put the new catridges in my printer reads 'Right cartridge incorrect' (alhtough the black one seems to work OK). The colour cartridge looks OK and appears to be full so why doesn't it work?
Who is at fault here? My new supplier or Dell?
I am absolutely furious about this. Am I going to have to buy more new cartridges? Please can someone advise.
You have been "had". What part of this message, this posting didn't you understand?
You buy this quote - "lovely printer" on the one condition that you will ABSOLUTELY, UNCONDTINALLY have to buy Dell printer cartridges, from Dell, both black and white and color - both AT THE same time!!!
This is a scam, this is a rip off, and there is NOTHING, you can do about it. Be mad all you want. They could not care less,. You already got this printer for like $70 bucks and you had it Overnight Express shipped to your house. Now, you WILL pay Dell about the same amount of money - $70 bucks, to replace you B&W and Color cartridge.
That it the deal. It stinks, butI cannot make it any more clear. That is how it works under Dell!
Dell is the only supplier of new Dell ink carts for Dell inkjet printers. Others sell used, relabeled or bootleg "Dell" ink carts, which often don't work. Try to get your money back from whoever sold you the bad ink cart.
first of all, I don't know if I entirely agree with this person, whom is obviously a shill for the company.... Fine! At least they participate in a somewhay open forum. The point is that this printer we all have is in fact, a Lexmark printer co-branded under Dell's name. So, to hear him state that is is a Dell and that no other cartridge will work kind of sticks in my craw.
Probably Dell has modified the machine that it will only take a cartridge that they sell.... also, that in itself is fine too,
MY PROBLEM -
as is everyone else here's problem, is that once your black cartridge dies, you MUST alsp but a Color cartridge at the sema time.....
That is it! End of story, you must buy BOTH to reactive this printer. I look forward to thouwing my Dell Lexmark 961 through the front window of Michael Dells office one day.....
I had same issue w/ original Dell color cartridge last night. **exactly 18 months old** (rumor has it these may electronically "expire" after 18 months; obviously I find it hard to disagree)
Based on extensive research on the matter I contaced Dell Support. (ie: tried everything including removing the battery from printer) To my surprise no hold time and intelligent India rep. I was on phone for appx 1hr in all and talked to 3 people, 2 of which tried to convince me the color cartridge is most likely "dried up". My cartridge should have been 50-75% full as I do not use it much, and I advsd him ink was bleeding from the unit onto my finger. They also mentioned my expired warranty and I reminded them that I felt the problem was a defective ink cartridge which Dell Warranties for 2 YEARS! Ha, they didn't have much to say to that, but put me through the dummy tests and passed them all. Finally they told me they will mail me a new cartridge and want me to mail my old one back (at their expense). Fine by me. All in all, I cannot complain about the service or their need to verify I'm not a swindler. ****Just remember Ink Cartridges from Dell come w/ a 2yr Warranty (chk the printer manual to confirm).**** >my other notion on the "dry cartridge" comment is this: Dell would not Warranty an Ink cartridge if it would commonly "dry up" w/in 2yr warranty period. Currently waiting for the replacement........

I'm having a similar problem.
My error message says that my "right cartridge is not correct" or something along those lines.
I just want to print with my "new" full black cartridge, I don't care about color right now.
I can't find a setting to use "only the black cartridge", and the printer won't print anything.
I hope you survived your bath.
