962 spring question
I have a brans new Dell 962 which after only two good photo prints, started failing to recognize the left (black) printer cartridge. I called Dell support and they are in the process of sending a replacement cartridge which I hope will fix the problem.
In the mean time, I noticed a loose spring and I was hoping somebody with a 962 AIO printer can look at theirs and tell me where it is supposed to go since it is easily visible from the front. Look In the opening where envelopes are feed, (between the top of the paper tray and upper deck). The spring is located at the rear of the platform, on the left side, just in front of a 2.5" horizontal plastic gear and about 1.5" under where the ink cartridges park. My spring is hanging, connected on one side to what appears to be a non moveable lever which extends out in front of the horizontal gear. I have no idea as to what the other side of the spring is supposed to be connected to. Can someone please tell me what the end points of this spring is?
Thanks

This spring adds tension to the docking area in the maintenance station. This is where your cartridge carriage resides when it is not in use, it keeps the printhead from drying out. It can be found in the leftmost area of your printer with the cover is raised. The docking area will still close without this spring attached, but it won't be quite as tight. Over time, you could see your printhead begin to dry out and print quality would prematurely deteriorate. It's fairly simple to re-attach though. The spring is attached via two thin, small, hook-like protrusions found at either end of the spring. These small hooks fit inside two small holes in the black plastic pieces, one should already still be attached, the other will be found approximately 1 inch away from that. You'll need a flashlight and a pair of needle nose pliers. If you take the flashlight and shine it in the area around the spring, you'll quickly find the small hole that spring needs to be inserted into. The hard part will be grabbing the end of the spring with the needle nose pliers and guiding it into the hole. I've done it several times though, so I know it's possible! ;) Good luck, and be sure to come back if you need any additional help!
