964 firmware upgrade issues (and solution)

I had an issue where running the latest DELL firmware upgrade for the 964 printer simply goes nowhere and times out trying to communicate with the printer.  The printer works fine otherwise, its just the firmware updater that was misbehaving.   Well after an online chat where I had to explain what firmware was (the guy insisted the problem was the DELL website (!)), I got someone on phone support that actually knew what a computer was.  Note to DELL: Kill the chat contract, that thing is beyond worthless.   The solution is to make sure the printer is directly hooked up to the PC (ie: no hub), and there are NO OTHER USB CABLES HOOKED UP.  After that, the firmware updater ran to completion and my printer's fax features are fixed.   -d

Hi,   Were you trying to send/receive faxes over a VoIP connection?   I have ATT CallVantage and Comcast  HiSpeed, and my new Photo 964 will not fax over the broadband connection.......

Sorry no, I don't have broadband so couldn't tell you if the patch fixes that or not. -d
