968 AIO Wireless Printer not finding wireless network

I reset the SSID of my wireless router and now my 968 printer will not find the new SSID to connect.

I have reset manufacturer defaults numerous times, unplugged, removed network adapter, replaced, replugged, in any combination I could think of, nothing works.  It created an SSID called print server 590???, which doesn't exist or have a signal, and I can't get it to change from that.

I have tried resetting the wireless configuration thru the USB connection, but the set up wizard does not acknowledge the wireless adapter, although the icon for it appears on the printer's display.

HELP!!!

rickatoo,

Anytime you change anything, other than the channel, you'll need to setup the printer like you did when you first purchaswed it.

Try making a new SSID and use these Recommended Wireless Router Settings, I use channel 11.

First run  Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs in the queue.

Disconnect the printer.

Uninstall the printer. Start, control panel, programs and features(add/remove porograms on XP machines)Dell 968 printer, uninstall

Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed.

Install the proper drivers. Tell it this is network and a new installation. Then follow the instructions. It will tell you when to attach the printer. It should ask for the network to connect to and the password.

Virus programs and firewalls will block communications.

It uninstalled and re-installed perfectly with USB connection.  Re-running to install additionally as wireless, connect to USB on prompt, error message "Could not find your wireless adapter"

Hi, again.  I started having the same issues again with my printer - not finding the network, thought the following might be interesting to anyone with a similar issue.

I eventually determined that the internal wireless adapter was shot, and tried to order another from Dell.  Not only don't they have a replacement adapter, but 9 people in different departments couldn't fathom the idea of not just replacing the printer with a new one, not comparable in any way for $79.

While I was on the phone with them, I did a google search for the Dell Wireless Network Adapter 1150 and found out it is a Lexmark part M01-001, readily available online for 39.99 (Amazon).

Ricki :)

rickatoo,

They don't seem to have the parts you'd think they should, at a resonable price.

Your Dell Printer was made for Dell by Lexmark, so I would imaging the adapter should work. But is the price of the adapter worth the price or maybe a new wireless printer would also be cheap.

Decisions, decisions.

Ricki,

In that case, since the printer is fairly new, then that probably was a good option. I don't think some of the models are available anymore, that why I stated that. I kinow the model I used to own is no loinger available for purchase. I probably would have purchasedc the adapter, also. I was thinking your printer may have been 5 years or older.

Let me know. I'm almost certain everything should be fine with that adapter.

Rick,

The part was $39, the printer is ALMOST 2 years old, was top of the line at the time, all the bells and whistles and only barely used.  I can count the times I’ve changed ink cartridges on one hand.  If the adapter isn’t compatible, then I’ll have to reconsider my wireless printing options, but for now I have my fingers x’d!

Thanks for your help!

Hi, Rick.

A new day, a new problem, but I see someone else had the same (my new) issue about a year ago and you tried to help them, too.

en.community.dell.com/.../19320186.aspx

The cable and power brick are fine (green light on brick), but NOTHING happens when I plug them into the 968.  No beeps, no start up, no green light in on button, NOTHING.  I unplugged for hours and replugged with the same result.  I received the new wireless adapter in today's mail, but now I can't turn on the printer to install it.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Ricki

Ricki,

Unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick for 60 seconds. This will reset any error message the printer is getting.

While the power brick is removed, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Thinking the discharge will allow the printer to find things when it's plugged back in and started.

Ricki,

Try a volt meter on the power brick to be sure. Green light could be false, but I cannot be sure. Not sure if there is anything inside the printer to reset.

Nope, nothing.  Green light on brick, no response from the printer...
