A920 color not working

My printer is only working in black and white.  Color ink is 60% full.  Can the ink dry out?  I have had the printer 2 years and have not replaced the color - but have replaced the black and white.

Try this:
Another reason may be that some of the ink nozzles on your ink cart print head may be clogged with dried ink. If this is the case you can soak the color ink cart print head in 1/2 inch of hot water for 15 to 30 minutes. blot with paper towel and see if you see 3 different colors, yellow, magenta and cyan.

Thanks everyone for the help!  My ink cartridge was clogged...

Hi Everyone,

I have the same problem, colour not working.  I was getting so fed up (so much for easygoing eh haha) I tried swapping the colour with the black and then printing a spreadsheet that had only black in it.  The three colours printed ok. Quite often I get colour cartridge missing even though its in.  I got my dell pc last year (along with the printer) and have been perfectly happy with it so far, pity the printer is as it is.  I have refilled both cartridges and they worked fine, very easy to do but as i say, although the black is still ok, the colour just wont work at all.  Ive tried two colour cartridges - same problem.
I haven't soak them in water but there is ink coming out.  I've also wiped the golden elements inside the printer with a lint free cloth, still no effect.

If anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated

Regards

Try the soak anyway. Sometimes the color you see when you wipe the bottom of the ink cart is just some residual ink that was already on the bottom of the cart. Also, on the 920, after you put in an ink cart you must press "new" when asked on the menu.

When you don't use your ink carts for a while, when you get new ink carts that have been stored in warehouses for a number of months, or when you have refilled a slightly too dry ink cart, the print head nozzles on the bottom of the ink carts get clogged with dried ink. The printer head cleaner menu will NOT dissolve the dried ink. Water will. Try this. Soak the bottom of the clogged ink cart in 1/2 inch of hot water for 15-30 minutes. Blot dry with clean paper towel (you should see plenty of the ink color on the towel). Retry.

I have refilled my 922 black ink cart 52 times and my color ink cart a couple of dozen times and they both have always worked perfectly. One reason for this may be that I use the printer every day. In one year I have printed over 25,000 pages.

Hi William_The_Scot,

Firstly, thanks appreciate your help.

I think your right, its the only thing I haven't tried.  If it doesn't work, it'll be a pity cause the print I was getting from it fitted the bill.  I have seen a Lexmark X1190 for just over £32 + Vat, so if worse comes to it, I may get that.  As I say, when it did work, i was pleased with the results.  I do use it virtually every day.

Once again, many thanks
