Can you copy a document under the glass? Black and white and color? If not, then I would say the Dell Series 1 ink cartridges need replaced.

i have got new cartridges installed and the same problem still comes up.i have scanned a document and tried to print it.but out of paper still comes up.

Can you print a test page? Maybe the scanner bulb is bad.

no cannot print a test page.i have scanned a document and tried to print it.but the out of paper box comes up every time.any ideas please.

Start, control panel, Devices and Printers, right click on your printer, left click printer preferences, Advanced, more options. You should see...
Make sure the Complete-a-Print boxes are unchecked.
If that does not work, sounds like you have faulty Dell series cartridges, contact the place of purchase for replacements.
