a940 50c error with new cartride

i just recieved my new black ink cartridge and a 50c error continues to come up after following the user guide's instructions. What should I do because I need to use the printer for school work among other needs ASAP.

Put your old ink cart back in. If the message does not show up with it then it is strictly a problem in the new ink cart. Try wiping the electrical contacts on the back of the ink cart. If that doesnt work then ask Dell to relace it, which they usually do.

actually i contacted them and its the old cartridge giving me the issue and they're like contact sales...its the OLD one giving the error...but the new black one works and i need it more so i guess i'll deal with it for now
