A940 All In One Printer (desperate)

My printer is out of ink and I need to print something for college ASAP!  Do you know where I can get a cartridge that would work in this printer without having to wait for DELL to send me a cartridge?

You should be able to find one that is compatible with dell wherever they sell ink cartridges.  If not, you can buy a refill kit, pop the top off of the cartridge and refill it yourself.  It's a little messy but works in a pinch.  I've done this with both my black and color cartridges.  Good luck!

Thanks for the information, but I took my cartidges to Staples and they said Dell is different enough that you can not find a replacement other than with Dell. Also, I tried the refilling of the cartridges and ended up having to get a new printer because it caused the printer to malfunction big time.  Dell cartridges are just Soooooooooo expensive and take a few weeks to get.

It takes 2 working days to get an ink cart from Dell. The price of Dell carts is almost the same as ink carts from the store for a similar ink cart, $19.00 to $31.00 with the average being $25.00. I have refilled my 922 ink cart over 50 times with a $2.50 refill and it has always worked perfecly. I get 500 typed pages from the 922 jumbo cart (new or refilled).

I have an A940 All-in-One Dell Printer and I am very disturbed with their "monopoly" on cartridges for their printers!  You CANNOT get cartridges for a Dell printer from anywhere but Dell, trust me.  I ordered in September (2 cartridges) and it was about $63 including tax.  3 months later (today) the same 2 cartridges are now $68.....a $5 increase!  I'm going to look to see if I can buy a non-Dell printer to use with my Dell system.  I'd rather go to Office Max or elsewhere than be a slave to Dell.  If anyone knows whether or not a non-Dell printer is compatible, I'd appreciate seeing a reply to this post.  Thanks and have a nice day!

Almost any brand of printer will work with your Dell computer. You just have to load the driver that comes with that new printer. If you want a cheap printer (not an all in one), Walmart and Target usually have a lexmark on sale for $24.95. Thats less than the price of the cartridges. Or I have seen Brothers all in ones on sale at office supply stores for as low as $49.95. I recently bought a new Canon MP130 all in one color photo printer, regular price $149.99, for a close out price of $35.00.

Thanks........ I'll try looking for one now that it appears I can do that!  I like competition when it comes to prices, and as I said, when I have to order cartridges ONLY from Dell.........I cringe!  I appreciate your reply!

You guys might want to check eBay for replacement cartridges.  I'm at work so I cannot check for this specific model at the moment but I have seen Dell printer cartridges listed there. I've saved a lot of money buying replacement cartridges from reputable sellers (check their feedback history) on eBay.

You guys need to take the things out that hold the carts down, and clip off the little tab that sticks down.  Once you do this, regular Lexmark carts will fit.  If you didn't know, Lexmark makes the Dell printers anyway.
